Silver as it looks like it once was - you need a new ignition tube!
19mm Black plastic electric conduit with 19mm copper ends to prevent crushing is a good subsitute although engo=ine heat will cause it to bend a little.
New ones turn up on Ebay also (as do the correct Lucas washer bottle fitted to many 1960's cars)

Thanks Phil but does it have a "correct silver" or just silver? Got a washer bottle and have just ordered the ing tube from wadhams (along £150 worth of other items) I hate them sites you can just click on items....... yep ill have one of them... and one of them....... oh well shes worth it ;D

Its just ordinary silver as I think was used on the V8's so any spray should do - strangely no-one seems to care about "correctness" as much with the unloved 3 Litres. Perhaps its a quallity thing - if you have it you do not have to flaunt it as with the V8's with their flash wheels, thinner steel and poorer build BTW - wrong top hose - although I have that sort on mine as well!
