Some 10 years ago I attempted to renew the boot rubber on my Mk1. One supplier sent me a length of rubber but proved to be too thick and I could't close the boot. A second supplier made one up from a sample I sent but the rubber proved to be too hard (no suppleness) Once again boot would not close.
I still have them and wonder whether the one consisting solely of hard rubber could be soffened in some way. Would leaving it in "thinners" for a day or two have any effect. Or does anyone know another treatment they could suggest. Or do I need an "industrial Chemist".
The original is still on the car and is beginning to look tatty.
Any solutions would be welcome.

Ditch the two you have and shell out for a new one from JRWadhams. ;D

About 5 years ago I got one from JRW which was impossibly large. He replaced it and all went fine. He told me that although the extruding dies are the same, it is the heat treatment which makes the difference.
