As I now live in France I will soon need to change the old lamps in order to pass the MOT known here as the CT. The ones on the car are raised slightly. Were these original? I have tried one dealer in the UK but was told that they no longer stocked the LHD ones. I also need two pairs fully domed like the old mini or morris minor.

Many years ago whilst serving with the RAF in Germany, we had the same problem, but 100 fold) Our thrifty way out was to spin the bulb (whether H4 or pre-focus - can't do it with sealed beam though) after removing the lugs. This then alligned the beam to point to the right. If I can recall, we then soldered an alligning blob of solder (pop rivet will do) and the car then passed the BFG test (Military MoT test). Initially, we all thought that the lens alone directed the beam. This is not so, it just enhances it. We then had breathing space to source some LHDrive (RH Dip) headlamps at our leisure. I do believe that some never bothered to fit purpose ones and they continually passed the anual BFG test with no problem.
Hope this may help
