sorry fellas
a really boring query - i've just bought my first, a 1969 p5b (very cheap and cheerful). going to be a rolling project.
just can't fathom out some of the switches:
i) panel lights (how come it's a 3 way switch - i assumed it'd be on/off)
ii) light switch - is the left position for sidelights only, and the right position for side/headlights? (and the stalk behind the indicators is the dip/main switch?)
iii) am i right in saying the foglamps (lower spots) won't operate if main beam is on?
iv) is the knob to the left of the cigar lighter the rear demister?
that's all for now. ta

Hi Welcome to P5 ownership.
i) Panel lights switch should be a continuous smooth lever movement from off (no panel lights) to on (bright panel lights) and varing to a low brightness setting for them. ii) Light switch (on instrument panel) has 3 positions: centre is off, left is parking lights (only right hand side lights on) and right is all side lights on. The smaller lever on the right of the steering column turns the headlamps on or off and the dip switch is on the floor by left foot.
iii) Correct.
iv) On my car yes. The knob to the right is for the front fog lamps.
Cheers

Welcome to P5 ownership - its on here as are on a lot of tips. use SEARCH but note the default days are 7 so use 2000 The colours are
Black - earth Orange/green Red/green Brown/green Green Blue
The last two connect togther and are the fused ignition supply. Your car should have the old type cloth covered cables and they will be oil stained and faded na dmay even have rotted off at the exposed end. You may have to remove the loom covering to expose fresh colours! There may have been a reason they were disconnected - the motor is two speed via a variable control with a reversing offscreen park setup that has to be adjusted carefully to work. The cable rack can seize up and must be removed for cleaning and regreasing
It essential to get a workshop manual however - these turn up auto jumbles or from the club as a reprint
Tell us more about you car any pics?

The foglights won't work with the headlights on at all, main or dipped.

The baove comment only applies to P5B's - 3 litres have the wiring built in for foglights with switches either under the main binnacle/the pods if a coupe or any unused positions on the column (manuals only). The electric pickup can be from whatever opsition desired - usually sidelights
