About correct - red rather than Burgundy though - I have a spare one I intend to put on mine as the paint/guilding does wash off the back quite quickly.
I will try to photograph it at the weekend unless someone beats me to it

You should be able to beat me to it Phil, my cars is off the drive now for the winter, and checking my pics I don't think I've got a full frontal of the badge. If my memory is correct the same badge appeared on some of the p4's as well.

Quite right - from about 1962 80, 100's 95's and 110's The P4DG had some remanufactured. P4's pre 62 had the model number as well eg 100 and they were enamelled metal to about 1958 some had different coloured ship sails! I have found my spare badge and its actually deteriated somehat. There is however NO gold and the "sea" has a mid BLUE background on the one on the car with the SILVER "waves" as can be seen (the sails have gone on that one!) So there are 3 colours + the Silver bits which is all intact as acn be seen

My badge above has one ear missing and there may have been a bottom pointed Lug as its chipped on the right.
I only 99% certain that the early Mk1's had the same badge as the P4's borrwed it to commonise parts, perhaps some simplification was made.
Who has the other early one!

Eric, are you sure what you said about there not being any holes in the chrome? The badge is fitted to the vertical centre spine of the grille, and there are two upper lugs and a lower one. The holes for this to fit being in the spine. I replaced mine with a brand new one back in the summer so its indelibly marked in my mind.

cant really tell until the P4 dashboard badge is removed - but clearly there is no hole at the bottom (if i knew how to attach a photo)

The Mk1 spine is clearly different - do not drill any holes in it. You must find the correct badge as it must be slightly different.
I will look at a P4 to see ig it had the hook on the bottom, I cannot be sure whether my spare had this

No photo disc received to date Pat. In the absence of a correct badge i think i will have to remove the nibs and glue the badge to the chrome. I dont think drilling holes in the backplate will do because there will be no tension in the nibs to hold it in place.

Without doubt the top is the P4 freewheel banking plate for the dash heater panel. The middle picture is a MK2 grill & badge.
The Top "3 Litre" badge on the top pic is correct for Mk1's and the middle one is the Mk2 version
JT's book dust cover shows a Mk1 grill

Thanks again Phil - to re-cap the first pic i took myself just to illustrate that no holes exist in the backplate. The second provided by JT is, from what you say, from a Mk11 so may well be different, even if only the fixing lugs. I notice that the Rover 3 litre above the grill is flat, where mine is ribbed. The third is a pic of yours - distressed as my recently acquired one is! So it seems that i must just make the best job on re-painting and cut off the nibs to glue to the chrome backplate. Dont draw attention to it of we should meet!

I agree that the nibs should be cut off as they will be brittle anyway and not be tsuuted to hold your refurbished badge securely. The red and blue in the picture has faded badly though they should be bright pure colours Holes have probably been drilled to take the stud fixings of the P4 badge though. The pictures of Mk1's and Mk1a I have seen look like they have the same plastic badge anyway - of course they may be later fitments if the old one had fallen of because of insecure fixing(s). Be careful waht glue you use as it could dissolve the new paint (silicon may be safer?) Quite clearly yet another detail improvement has just been discovered - let us know what is behind the P4 badge!

I've just looked at page31 of JT's book and for the Mk1 it shows the ribbed 'Rover 3 Litre' which it says is a metal casting. Obviously the font of the lettering is unique to the MK1. However the 'viking' badge is the same as fitted on the early to mid sixties P4's and the MK11's it would be interesting to know how the P4 badge fitted and how the MK1 fitted too.

NOW SOLVED thanks. Re-painting not very successful but siliconed in place for the Classic Car Show NEC Birmingham. Yes guys, you are quite right about some P4s having identical badges. P4 Guild had a batch made - all sold - but another batch soon to be ordered. After me you can all be first!

The badge is common to some P4s - 90 and 95 I think. The P4 Club had a few hundred remade and after some poor efforts, one was selected and sold to members. Now they are going to get another batch made, but who knows when! No replies from P4 club even via current members and i would like to identify the manufacturers 'cos i am sure many owners would like to obtain one or more

yes Phil - keeps getting re-listed! I wonder if Roverparts have located the manufacturer, bought loads and selling them off as rare!

No - they do have lot of NOS as they were the principal supplier in 1970/80's - and everyone says Wadhams are expensive!

have visited www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/ who state they have the badge but it appears to me to be enamelled metal so have sent them an Email requesting further particulars. If they are the same, at £44 they are half the Roverparts price

Enamalled metal ones were used on earlier P4's - it will be interesting to see what they are like as the Diakon ones are deteriorating with microcracking apart from flaking paint. It is unlikely to be genuine P5 NOS as Rover moved over to Diakon badges in 1958

Have asked ScottOZ "cant tell from your website if it is a good replica, since mine is formed acrylic painted from behind, and your description suggests that yours are enamelled metal. Can you please provide some further information?" Reply is "They are the P4 type but made blank like the 3 litre, not much else I can say. Thank you, Scott". not a lot of help, so perhaps buy Oz one for £44 or so, then Roverparts one for £80 if not satisfied! Wish i could locate the manufactuer of the P4 Club replicas.
