i didnt know if to stick this under body or electrical or mech,as it covers all three. apart from the obvious rostyles, shared with jensen, and bumper parts with aston, does anyone know of other parts that are shared to make finding parts easier, like the overiders from a stag or p6 are they the same??ANYTHING

I have made this a sticky. A number of engine and chassis parts are shared with P4 and older Land Rovers, both straight 6's and V8.
Most body and trim are unique (grab handles are P4, as are front layback seats in 3 iLtres) as is steering and suspension and front disk brakes
Virtually all of the Lucas electrics were used on many other cars of the same period

A friend of mine has a Triumph Stag. I think the V8 overriders could fit there. Do they ? I just purchased a few screws for the door hinges from a MGB. I guess that doesn't matter. What screws do I need for the lock plates fixed to the D-post ? MGB won't fit. Regards Mark

I also have a Triumph Stag (not for long term keeps) in addition to my P5B. The overriders are different on the P5B and are 'filled in' on the back whereas the Stag overriders are 'open' on the back. The rubber inserts look the same but Rimmer Bros sell those at £8.50 + VAT so best to stick with Wadhams at £6.50 + VAT! Sorry I don't know what screws you need for lock plates at the moment. Perhaps someone else knows the answer to that one.

P5B underbonnet light covers shared with Range Rovers. Bonnet safety catch-the one that breaks- shared with Moggie Minor. Interior lights shared with MGB?..I think Series 2 jag electric window winders bolt in replacement for saloon winders to give electric windows..

The prop shaft joints are the same as the Series 2a & 3 Land Rover type as are the rear brake shoes (Series 2 & 3 LWB only). Front disks/pads are sahere ONLY with the P4 100-95-80-110
3 Litre spark plug covers were used on P4's and Land Rover IOE S1 (6 cyl 2a & 3 to 1980)
Oil filter for the 3 Litre is also Land Rover 6

Long Wheel Base as opposed to Short Wheel Base SWB - as Land Rover's used a 4 cylinder IOE engine from the P3 for while and which was also simlilar to the P4 60 + plus the 26 Six IOE was used in LR's from 1967-1980 some engine bits and gaskets wil fit the P5 3 Litre.
Also the Cold start "Otter switch" used on pre- AED V8's and all 3 Litres.
The front side light bulb holder can be rebuilt using tye common Lucas glass Domed/flat bublholdersfor the larger SCC BA15 bulbs

which other Rovers used the same gearbox as mk 1 with overdrive?

Try search - posted only a couple of months ago
None - apart from M1a and P4. The outside cases differed though
Some or of the internals however may well fit from P4's of the same period - they came with or without overdrive.
The design dates back to the early 1930's and right into the S3 LandRovers (but not in the P6/SD1)

Not sure whether any of you noticed the Mintex (genwine asbestos ) disk pads on Ebay last week which apart from from fitting P5's (and P4's which was not mentioned) were said to fit Armstrong Siddley Sapphire (not sure whether this included the star as well?) These very fine cars are quite rare and even "better" than P5's so I am not sure that this will make pads any easier to find. Anyway I won the pads for £16 odd and they are just the job ;D

My father & I were offered a Sapphire once. Can't recall if it was a Star or not. A lovely barn find but we shied away from the amount of work & money it needed throwing at it. At the time we were restoring my P5B. They're very big cars.

I have been doing dome research on this, and the Land Rover 2.6L engine is apparently a de-stroked 3 Litre engine. It is NOT the same as the earlier P4 2.6 Liter engine. As such, the head gasket fits, and I imagine the pistons and many of the other internal bits would, too.
The oil pressure light sender is also the same as the Land Rover.
