I thought it may be a good idea to establish a post on ways to keep your car clean and shiny without having to spend a small fortune on the major brands. If you know of anything that you have tried and been satisfied with the results then post it here.
So to start things off....
Engine cleaner and grease/oil removal.
Brush cleaner (Wickes or B&Q) brush on, work it in, leave for 10 minutes, wash off with hot, soapy water, rinse with clean water.
Cost approx £2.99.

Paintwork restorer & polish.
I tried Tescos own brand, and found it excellent. Bottle shape and size and contents seems to be exactly like T-cut. Finished of with a good wax and the finish is excellent.
Cost £1.99

Claybar.
Blutack. Use exactly like a normal clay bar with a spray bottle of water with a drop of car shampoo in it, to act as a lubricant. Spray body, rub with the Blutack and the paintwork, glass etc. will be as smooth as..... glass.
Cost approx 79p.
Tescos Bumper care.
Bought this recently and it does bring up the rubber a treat. Time will tell if it lasts but at this price it is worth it. Works a treat on rubber mudflaps
Cost £1.99 for 500ml aerosol.
To keep alloy wheels looking good try 'Astonish' wheel cleaner fom the £1 shops.
To keep that paintwork looking good mix up your own spray gloss top up.
Approx: 10 parts water - I used distilled, but I am sure tap water is fine.
Small spot of car shampoo.
One part water based wax i.e. Turtle wax colour magic.
One part *gloss wax (Meguiars Gold Class)
One spare old spray bottle
Clean Microfibre.
One very light spray is enough to do half a bonnet.
Wipe over with microfibre until dry.
* You need to shake the spray bottle to ensure the wax is mixed.
