Morning - I see a quote for a total 6,000 Mark 3s produced - am guessing Saloons? When I look at Wikipedia it says production of the Mark 3 made only 2501 coupes - wonder whats true......... I have a 1966 Column shift auto Coupe. Slowly doing it up, interior the worse for wear but exterior is pretty perfect. I found the original sale book and service records (hilarious) to a Doctor in Sydney- now in Melbourne. Need to check on a few historical facts when I get it back from the mechanic..... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rover_P5

Paris,
The Rover clubs in Vic and NSW may be able to find your car in their vehicle registers. The AOMC in Vic can also do a VicRoads (RTA, MRB, etc.) database search against the engine number for a fee. These can sometimes fill in gaps in the car's history.

great - thanks Warwick
I checked the docket - apparently first service at 2,500 miles was 31/8/67 and registered to a Dr. Dalgarno of Darling Point. Chassis was 73100365A which matches engine number (with a B) but oddly not listed anywhere in my Rover Manuals as a number that exists.....
Cool though to see the original service manual and intervals

I'm thinking early 1990's??? Need to check - I think it was another colour originally - cream or something .... I am sure people have seen it around - its black with red pin stripes and white wall tyres.

I can give you the contact details for the Vic and NSW club registrars if you like. They should be able to find it if past owners were club members.
I can give you the contact at the AOMC for a Vic engine number search. You get all the Vic rego history, but with names and addresses deleted. It costs about $60 from memory - as a donation to the AOMC.

Thanks Warwick - that would be great. Would be interested to know - I need to get the car back from the shop to check some info (hard to do when miles away!)
I am looking to get the interior done and I saw a link here for a Tony O ' Connell in Eltham. I was going to use someone more local in Moorabbin but might get some quotes. Any suggestions? I would like it pristine but know its going to cost $$$. Actually going to get all rubbers replaced first to make sure no leaks. Getting the whole fornt end done and have just ordered all the bushes etc. I think I found a chroming place as well so it should look great!! but not in any hurry (had no idea this was going to add up so fast!). Will post some pics when i get around to it
Cheers

I've sent you a PM Paris.
I think it's Tony McConnell in Eltham. Where did you find the link?

I have a 1965 MkIII Car No 776-01014C First Reg August 1965 in New Zealand. The table on page 92 of Rover P5 and P5b The complete story,
MkII 3-litre Saloon: commission numbers and production figures 1965 MkII Saloon 776-00780 to 776-00815 Auto,Export RHD (36)
implies that mine is a MkII as the commission number starts with 776- But its 199 cars later than the last one.
The Rover 3 Litre workshop manual 2nd edition Jan 1966 under Commencing Car and unit numbers also lists it as a MkII Saloon Automatic Transmission,Export,RHD 77600001A
How ever its a MkIII: Big badge on the grill Wide coach line on the side with 3 pips at the back Bigger front seats with a backrest friction lock Negative earth Clock on the left Centre tool kit and picnic tray Ashtrays in the back doors Rear heater
But it has a bench seat in the back.
Finally the plate on the door pillar:
THE ROVER CO.LTD SOLIHULL, ENGLAND. ROVER 3 LITRE MARK III CAR No 77601014C IGNITION KEY NO. FG797 BOOT KEY No. FS896
On that basis I claim the oldest MkIII saloon, so far.

in October i got a 1962 mk1A p5 saloon mainly to give me a interest as living alone it's to easy to get in a rut, the car runs superb and it was described very well, but it' has a few problems i'm slowly sorting out. but i'm very happy with this car

Definitely a Mk3 then - rear bench seats remained a no cost option on Mk3 and P5B saloons

Again referring to James Taylor p121/2 he states that for all markets 3,919 saloons were built and 2,501 coupes.

Hello Mike,
Looking at your picture your car is wearing the later Rostyle wheels from the P5B. If you search on eBay; 'Rover P5 Rostyle Centre' you'll find badges & caps are available, though at a price. David Green in the UK will probably have some in stock, I'm sure local owners will be better able to advise you on sources more local to you.
Cheers
Peter

Scott Richmond at Scott's Old Auto Rubber has them. www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/Although you might have trouble getting through to him at the moment. The NBN has just been connected to his area, and I'm sure you've heard of those problems.
