Kudos to you again Vince, because you were correct that the ignition timing was the problem, not the carburetor. Since my car is positive ground, I haven't used a timing light yet because I don't know how I should hook the power up on the light-? hook +ive to +ive on car battery, or +ive to -ive? But I did find the timing marks on the flywheel and it appears the engine timing was off. I reset static time with a test bulb and car now has power again above 3000 rpm and sounds/feels pretty good. Previous driving was mainly all between 2000-3000 rpm and felt OK until going above that. I'll go over all settings again for carburetor and idle setup and look for info on timing lights with +ive ground cars.

Hi Ken, well that's good to hear. As an aside you don't have to stay with a positive earth on your car. Going to a negative ground simplifies things and provides options for all the latest electrical paraphernalia for your classic. For instance, running a Satnav or USB power source from the cigarette lighter in the car. Take a look at the following link. The MGA Guru is one of the best sources for this type of tech info on British cars of the 1950s and 60s. www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/electr_2.htmChanging from positive to negative earth.www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/et202.htm
