I thought Allan would like this, as it's his birthday. Happy Birthday Allan! I saw this poor old girl on e-bay. Is anybody out there brave enough to take it on? Is anybody mad enough(no, not me this time) I think it needs a new 'A' post!! It's sad to see another one bite the dust. Has anybody got any idea how many existing numbers of saloons and coupes are still in existance?, or maybe even an educated estimate?

Can we assume the sill trim has fallen off!! What a state, :'(the worse I have ever seen.It looks as if it has been standing in damp vegetation for years, but I can see some salvagable brightwork.I like the look of the drivers door mirror.I have never seen it mounted there and it looks to be good quality. Adrian I bought the leatherique from the Australian site as obviously they were closer to me. But I originally found the American site and they put me in touch with john in Aussie. I did email the Americans for a couple of questions and they emailed back very promptly sometimes within hours but alway by the next working day. I would download and read this file www.leatherique.net/Leatherique bookletREV5.pdf you will have to cut and past this full url "http://www.leatherique.net/Leatherique bookletREV5.pdf" into a browser as this site dosn't support urls with spaces. This is the most comprehensive information on the products. From the pictures you supplied of your interior I would suggest you only need the rejuvinator oil and pristine clean. This is a good place to start as it is best to get your leather as good as it can be prior to any other treatment. You need to do it in summer as heat makes a huge difference to how the product works as the warmth opens up the pores of the leather. Do just one seat to start with and compare. Depending on heat and condition it can take more than 1 application to see the full benefit. It does seem strange to nourish prior to cleaning but boy does a lot of gunk come to the surface and clean off nicely. If you read the booklet the logic seams sound Regards Regards

Sadly I think its fate is already sealed. Not so much because of the A post, which, lets face it, MOST of the cars remaining need attention to, but because its a SALOON.
At the rate that they are being disposed of lately, there will not be many left soon, which is bad news. The first thought is that our own cars will be more valuable, which may, or may not, be true, but the sad thing will be that the specialists will not be able to sustain good business from the remaining cars, and will cease trading. Then where will we be ?

In fact, it would be a good idea if one of the club commitee were to approach the DVLA, and find out how many cars were still registered. I know a fair few would not actually exist any more, but they could easily tell how many are taxed and mow many are on SORN. At least we would have some idea.

As a special birthday favor to me could it be arranged to have it delivered to the parking lot out side one of my business competitors. Marked precious automotive memorabilia preferably could we have the wheels removed and it craned into the position marked managing director.

A full report appeared in Take Five a few years ago care of Richard Stennett. I understand john...Weymouth is currently putting together a revised listing.
Not wishing to hijack this thread, on the subject of Coupe over Saloon I have a theory that as everyone appears to want a Coupe, the saloon (much better rear headroom by the way) will eventually become the rarer beast and maybe more desireable?

I don’t know how many are left on the road but about 10 years ago myself, my dad and two others striped what we could of 8 coupé before they were crushed . There is two coupe and one salon at home that will never see the road again but will be used as donor cars for others that will be restored. What was the total production run for the P5?

I think the total was about 21,000 P5b's roughly equal between saloons and coupes,

Bertie is very near.According to James Taylor there were 20627 p5bs and 48548 p5s built. if you had the time and will you could use the chassis numbers given in his book to work out the coupe and saloon numbers for each version of the p5 . I wouldn't like to guess how many are left but if my part of the world is anything to go by the answer is one!! Probably 90% of p5s have gone and maybe the same number of p5bs. That would leave about 7000 left in the world but as I am writing this, that figure seems way too high! Richard
