A thick cardboard tube inserted in the rear floor mat pocket under each front seat - there is also a a steel foot rest at the front for the passenger

Your carpets require ironing!

No, nothing like that there at all. I now feel quite deprived! I wish I'd never heard of rear footrests.
My backseat passengers will have to continue doing what they've always done - using the cinema technique. Put their feet on the back of the seat in front.

Hi John, looking at your pictures you have done a fantastic job on the rover, it looks really nice and professionally done. Could I ask what colour the paint is and the code please as my supplier is having trouble. Thanks

Of course Mk1 & Mk2 3 Litres did not have them I haven't got them in my MkIII. Besides, the shape of the floor provides a footrest.

Are you sure - Mk3's had the P5B trim? Actually Vice-versa. The floor pan was the same in all P5's

All I can say is that I can't see any 'footrest' as described. I think I have a very early MkIII; maybe footrests weren't introduced straightaway?

Foot rest is a somewhat misleading as most owners have nor realised they have them! They are difficult to spot
All it is a tubular pocket sewn into each rear footwell mat well underneath the front seat. Inside the pocket is a thick cardboard(!) tube not more than 1.5" diameter.
Perhaps other Mk3 owners can see - certainly my Mk2 does not have them and I have noticed other Mk3's with them but perhaps they did not have the right carpets?
Any pictures

The best way to check if you have them is to go for a nice long walk, and then sit in the back of the car for awhile. If your feet feel rested, then you may have them.
Similar techniques may be used to check for headrests, backrests and armrests.

Difficult to photograph without taking the carpets out of the car and I don't have time for that at the moment. However, there has been a set of rear P5 carpets on ebay recently and the footrest referred to is clear from the photograph of them. My MkIII rear carpets very definitely do NOT have this footrest. javascript:add("%20:-/") The car's chassis number is 80000212A which I am taking to be an early MkIII.

It is an early model - I will make point to look at other Mk3's!
Early V8's had thick seat backs too

I have a 67 V8 coupe with these footrests and as Phill says I have the thick seat backs, footrests hardley noticable though not like all the foam falling out of the seats bases!!

Yes the early P5's had thick seats Phil but the carpets will be another transition anomaly from Mk3 to P5b

Quite possible - early Mk3 seat bases had a map pocket at the front as well. MK3 carpets did come a good variety of colours too
