hello all
i am an 18 year old girl who has just inherited my uncles 3 litre p5.
i have always loved the car ever since i used to travel in it when i was a little girl.
anyway i was chuffed to bits when my uncle gave it to me.
the car has been standing in a garage for a few years and will require some work.
I have a workshop manual but i cannot see how the accelerator pedal unbolts from the floor, i can see two bolts underneath the car but i cant see the tops of the bolts on the pedal, and secondly how is the rear valence attached to the car i cant find any bolts for it.
please please help

Hi Chelsea welcome to the forum the 2 screws that hold the accelerator pedal are countersunk slotted so no nut to see and the rear valance is not bolted on it is welded. If the screws are rusted best soaked in WD40 for a couple of days if you ruin the slots it will be a case of drilling them out or using stud extractors! good luck

hi john,
Thanks for your info i have had another look at the top of the pedal and can just make out the tops of the screws so they are now soaking in wd 40 as i write.

Good luck - I have never succeeded in removing them by unscrewing! Be careful not to damage the rubber as good secondhand ones are rare

Welcome to the forum. A workshop manual is a great first step but your next step should be to join the club!
As a matter of interest, why do you want to remove the pedal? Is it siezed up? If so, the problem is more likely to be at the top of the pedal or in the cable to the engine. The bottom is just a pivot.
Post some pictures of the car when you can.

Our cars are certainly at the age when strange things are starting to happen In my case, in the toolkit, the screwdriver handle is melting and the foam in my seats is turning into a multi-coloured semi -powder type of material which is probably only any use as cat litter My drivers seat is shrinking after every drive. I'm going to need a booster seat soon ;D

hello everyone,
wow what a response, the reason i need to replace the pedal is as john has pointed out the metal backing where it pivots has snapped or rusted away and the rubber is headed the same way.
i am also going to join the club asap

hi everyone,
sorry ive not been on here for a while but over the last week or so my father has been looking over my car for me and its now come to light that the body is really rusted.
there is rust on the curved bit by the back doors and the bit where the door hinges bolt to, also inner and outer sills, bottom of the front wings by the doors, in fact everywhere.
he worked out that the repair panels would cost £400 to £500 then about a months solid welding then respraying etc etc so he has told me to forget about the car cos its not financially worth doing ( its only a p5 were his exact words )
but im not gonna give up on a p5 so i am going to save up and sell the good bits on the car and buy another one ( maybe a v8 ).
so until then happy rovering,
Chelseagirl

Bad luck the D posts are a weakness but finding a better one that is already done may not be all that it looks - these cars as with most should not be looked on as an investment opportunity any more than buying a modern car new or used. Is £500+ too much to spend compared to a modern car depreciation cost

That's a great shame but as I do bodywork for a living and work on P5's when they start to rust they can be very costly to put right. Good luck with your saving and hope to see you back soon

Its a mark 3 then and they only made about 4000 cars in that model which was 3 times less than any other model, so they are becoming rare now. I think the last time I asked on here about how many there are I got about 12 replies, so think carefully if the car can be done do it if its to far gone then scrap it.
