Folks
I recall a thread - which I can't find, which discussed the problem of the round headrest adjustment buttons, and the fact that they break and are hard to come by.
someone had a cunning plan re sourcing them / making them. Did that come to anything? My one remaining one has now broken off.
Cheers

I've searched back "manually" through the Bodywork section but can't find it. I wonder if it was in the Parts section and has been inadvertently deleted during a clean-up of obsolete parts for sale/wanted posts.

Steve - now that is very innovative, and interesting. Can you give us a step by step guide as to what you did...I'm sure many members will be interested

They can be simply made on a lathe the most difficult bit is the turning of the ball at the rear to fit the clip.

These buttons were cast but i'm sure they could be turned and plated. They tend to go missing, i replace them with off-the-shelf clothing buttons which are a couple of quid from dunhelm. They work well but obviously not as good as the originals.

Thank you, it is the first time, I see the button from behind. Now I can make me a picture about this button.

A friend of mine has made me a couple but the issue is not just the button but the supporting part it pushes into is a plastic "top hat" with a metal collar and the metal collars go missing then the buttons won't stay in which is probably why a lot went missing s they're only an interference fit.
So, Bob is making me some nylon replacements for the piece that the buttons push into as well as the buttons.
I'm sure he could be persuaded to make some extra but it does take time and materials to produce them.
I'll see if he can put up some pics of hat he has made.

We have a prototype!
We looked at several headrests (the 3 sets I have and two of friends) and all have damage to the nylon stem that the button pushes into and some were missing the collets that support the end of the nylon stem. Consequently, to avoid complaints that the buttons fall out of the old stems, Bob has decided to produce stem, collets and buttons together as they are easy to change and will ensure the buttons remain in place

I'm having problem posting pics as I'm getting a message saying that the forum has reached its upload image so can't post more pics.
I've received several enquiries which I'm having to field so if you'e interested in a set of buttons you can contact Bob who is making these using bob@bobshepherd.co.uk and he will supply additional information if required.

If your guy is going to the trouble of making the buttons here is some a bit more lookie likie and wont involve more work and Ali is easier to turn and cheaper than brass! I am not being picky just trying to help
