I have just been given a very quiet running ford 5.7 v8.
Could this be fitted to the bw35 in my car at present and would the whole job be not to hard to do.

Yep far too hard, I suggest you put it on a pallett and ship it to my house immediately. I will give it a good home

In Australia the BW35 was mated to far larger engines than over here as they continued to develop it long after the UK did, and I'm sure I remember seeing that it was fitted behind some Ford V8's, and if that is the case you could try to source the flexplate/bellhousing/converter to mate it to your box. Other than that it's a case of fabricating something yourself. The problem with both those options though, is that you just won't be able to use the full performance the engine offers, because it will just tear the guts out of the BW35.

Roy...exactly my feelings...oooo a 5.7 V8 lovely. My 4.2 XK's (300bhp) just got a great powerband & in sport mode...scares the S outta me. A 5.7 in a P5 sounds great to me...mind you a massive brake upgrade would be required & some plastic pants.
Big Kev.

Is this a newer 5.7 Ford or an older model. I had a 351 Cleveland 5.7L in a '72 Ranchero with a factory four speed manual trans and a four barrell carb. Talk about get up an GO! Ford also made back then a 351 Windsor 5.7L that didn't have anything like the power the Cleveland did. I'm sure the newer 5.7s have gobs of power.

If you were going to go to all that trouble, it would be sensible to get an Australian Ford Falcon BW40 which is one of the strong BW35 developments that Harvey is talking about. The internals from the 40 will fit straight into the Rover BW35 case.
They are so numerous here and were used for so long that they are almost worthless.
If you want details, wait until Enigmas gets back on line.

The 5.7 V8 should give the P5 a bit of 'mumbo'...perhaps too much! The BW35 was fitted behind an XR or XT Ford Falcon (1966-67) V8 289 ci engine. My 4.4 P76 has the BW40 behind it and the engine is approx 267 ci and it is very reliable. The 5.7 engine would have too much 'mumbo' and would probably shread the gearbox but there are a lot of 3 speed (automatics) alternatives out there (C6) that bolt straight on, are cheap, strong and very reliable. Given that the block is cast iron the 3 litre P5 front clip (chassis) would be worth fitting as the torsion bars are setup for the heavy 3 litre 6cyl. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Windsor_engine
