I am having problems with the bonnet lock not releasing. Pull as I may, it would not release. So popped down to the garage and it opened no problem without being touched. Checked everything through, greased the slider catch, all looked OK, closed the bonnet, it wouldn't open again. Eventually got it open by manipulating the bonnet to the near side and after more fettling closed and released the bonnet a couple of dozen times - absolutely no problem. Several days later, when I want to check the fluids, bonnet won't open. The problem has come out of the blue, bonnet hasn't been off the car for some years now when I replaced the blanket. Hinges look fine. Nothing has changed. I haven't whipped the grill off because I couldn't see that checking the cable connection would help, as the slider catch is still being pulled to the offside of the hole in the striker plate. It's a nuisance. Anyone experienced this problem before?

yes - the bellcrank at edge of grill seizes and sticks it can be lubed through the grill slats but is better to remove the grill and do the lot properly

My bonnet release wont return on releasing. The dropped bonnet will only lock if i push the handle manually back to the shelf. Same treatment?

Yes but also the cable could be kinked/dry
