Rover P5B & Lexus V8 Update 14.05.12
(NodsMods) Neal O’Donohue’s Mods
Neal is progressing well with the Lexus V8 modification to his client’s P5B. I find that I’m always impressed by the quality of the work and the engineering sophistication on every visit to his workshop. The cross-member and front suspension being used is an XJS Jaguar unit also incorporating 4 spot callipers and vented discs. The cross-member has been sectioned 80mm to narrow it and is fitted internally with a steel box section tube to reinforce it. He has fitted after-market shock absorbers and has custom built the shock tower to locate the top shocker bolt. There are also large oval ‘fish-plates’ welded to either side of the sub-frame to strengthen the structure. This is clearly visible in the last picture. Steering will be by way of a narrowed XJS power-steering rack which is currently being modified at a specialist shop.
In my view, the XJS front end fits the car like a glove, is very robust, is adjustable and looks like a Rover factory fitting. It certainly surpasses the original suspension.
The range of pictures below illustrates the current state of play.
(Above & below) Radiator, air-conditioner condenser and transmission cooler fitted.
Notches cut into sub-frame to clear lower portion of custom alloy radiator.
(Above & below) Passenger side engine mount
Custom radiator and electric fan
Cross member & engine mounts. Sectioned sway-bar fitted.
DS engine mount & front suspension
Neal pointing out the after-market shock and custom shock tower.
(Above & below) Rear brake calliper and slotted & vented disc brake
Jaguar XJS front suspension. (Note: Springs are not in place yet)
Aftermarket shock & fabricated shock tower. (Note: Oval strengthening ‘fishplate’)
Hopefully now everyone can see Neal's work
