I always thought the rover p5 site was upstanding and forthright and have allways found it to be so, however , imagine to my horor when I open the p5 webpage I'm confronted with an advert for LOCAL SLAGS .co.uk www.localslags.co.uk/cc/casual.php?utm_source=prfntwrk+ewa&utm_medium=prfntwrk&utm_campaign=Adult+Generic&utm_term=178484-LM&dkio=1I couldn't resist it and had to have a look to see if any lived in my area, but alas none to found Thinking I'd check the postcode where the national is being held this year and gues what!, lots. :)of LOCAL SLAGS about. So that's my advanced ticket ordered up pronto LOL Just seems a long way to go to get a "SLAG"but there you go. LOL again

Hey Steve you really are one for cultural enlightenment. What does the W stand for? Thought you liked the cars.
David are there restrictions as to the type and sort of advertising proboards can put on this site? Or is it Steves online history that deermines what he gets?
Not entirely sure what slags are but have not yet had a problem. God forbid they are what Steve is attracted to.

It has always puzzled me why ProBoards display such downmarket ads. But that's the "downmarketiest" one I've seen to date. I currently get one for psychic palm-reading inviting me to find out who I'll marry, but they are usually for stupid on-line games or how some Local Mom (sometimes, Local Mum) in a tiny little 2 horse town near here discovered how to peel cling film off her face and look 25 years younger.
Thank God we've seen the last of that kid who'd had his teeth whitened using $1 worth of secret laundry products.

As I type this, the advert is for the charity UNICEF followed by Hewlett Packard, which as I was looking at St Peters Hospice on my HP computer, could explain why... ;D
We could make the forum advert free at a cost. The money would have to be taken from Rover P5 Club members fees, which is rather unfair as most on this forum are not club members and though as a club we are happy to offer this forum to all, I see no reason why our members should subsidise others.
After all this time I do not even notice the adverts, or perhaps it is just me!

I also had the advert mentioned at the top of the thread appear (strangely only on my work pc during lunch) and I can assure everyone that my viewing history reflects nothing along a similar vein! Even if it did I would be sacked immediately! It is a shame that ads like that appear..maybe there is a parental control on the site for it?!

As this has always been a family friendly site, I have contacted Proboards explaining our concerns. I will report back with their response.

I thought local slag referred to the byproduct of arc welding a p5 and of course instantly dismissed any further investigation.
We all know only Mig is suitable for our lovely steeds!!

When I'm not on here I spend most of my day surfing clairvoyant sites trying to find out when my car will be back on the road. Like David, I tend not to notice them except when they change. What surprises me though is what a waste of space they are. In these days of web-based marketing and the ability to target ads to buyers, these ads are just spam. They are missing a golden opportunity to target us - and they don't.
