How about the Club starting a new photo section subdivided into logical parts and then forum users can upload and thereby back up their own work whilst enriching the knowledge of others.
Could even call it knowledge?!

If we all stuck to the Subject in the original post Peter and didn't wander off topic as we all do search works great and a lot of guys have a host such as Photobucket but once pics are deleted or the link has gone so has the info. I suppose a dedicated Cloud storage would work I think normally they are only personal use but this is a free site and who would pay and who would be responsible for the content if it were open to all?

Hi John,
Sorry I got off subject but a photo says so much more than words and some members are really providing some great ones. Not sure the search system will automatically just show photos when that is what is needed? Perhaps each moderator could cover it within his existing subject remit? Could each existing section have a photo department?
Just a thought. Knowledge is really valuable when readily available.
Regards,
Peter

I meant we all drift off topic at times I think you are missing the point about pictures they are hosted and we only see them if allowed to! so no permanent access unless stored somewhere and who would upload and police it and who would pay for it? I think it would be a bit too involved IMHO.

OK John Didn't realise they were all hosted. Thought people sent their own digital pix which were "filed" by Proboard in the forum system That's a shame it would have been a magnificent feature.

Peter, I could not help notice the way you worded your posts, the club could do it, the moderators could do it. Not once did you offer to even help out. Did you ever rejoin the club and help finance the forum? I am sorry but with a number of committee members and others doing 2 and 3 jobs for the club and then someone who does nothing suggests others do more it annoys me.

Sorry you are annoyed Pete but recall this happens more often. Only trying to help. Presumably the club does not wish to outsource or use non-members? With the quality of photos being provided recently by people who have obviously taken a lot of trouble it is a shame that there is no permanent facility to enable them to reach as wide a viewing as possible. The club has chosen to allow ex-members to view the site which I do with pleasure. When you were recently under fire for attitude and or quality I leapt to your defence. I'm used to setting objectives and achieving them. Do you suggest this is not a valid objective or just that the club has no sustainable business model? There is obviously much going on in the background that is not being shared. With so many well willing people around sharing the burden may help. That is what I am doing now. Looking at this logically it would appear that a "photo file" would help but John is saying that most photos sent in are hosted (temporarily) elsewhere. My suggestion that forum members post their own photos would presumably involve their using their own energy rather than yours as happens with their other postings. Creating a photo section isn't difficult is it. Other sections have been invented recently to good effect. Not quite sure where the irritation comes from! Is the problem that Proboards have no facility? It may be worth talking to them. In this age of images they must have something or at least be thinking of developing something. Let me know how I can help!

Peter I am on a couple of other Yahoo Groups where you are vetted and can post up files pictures etc and it works ok but on an individual basis you cant add to someone else's folders! you would have to rely on someone to take on the responsibility of setting up the site which would be in competition with this one If we could upload pics and files problem solved in one way but may create problems in other ways

OK so forum users are enabled to post photos and can upload from their own computers without being obliged to use a photo site as intermediary but cannot upload into someone else's subject matter?

Hi Peter, a double ententre there maybe. ;D
You can upload a single photo on this forum to any post, using the current setup - select 'attachment' found under the subject heading when you type a reply. However, the photo cannot be any bigger than 1mb.
If more than one photo, then you need a provider (Photobucket, Flickar etc) to upload from. If we did develop a one site for all, then I would be concerned on a number of points. First would be managing such a set up and also if that site goes down everything would be lost. The phrase 'too many eggs in one basket', springs to mind.
Currently I don't see the current system is a problem, but am happy for anyone to propose a practical alternative.

David, obviously my phrasing conicides with you're about to celebrate the weekend or my going on vacation with my beloved! Proboards doesn't back up or have emergency servers?
The current forum is certainly not a problem on the contrary. Was just thinking if someone in Oz says look this what my stainless steel exhaust looks like someone could put a UK version beside it under a new heading that says exhaust photos (no double entendre intended). Germany, NL and USA could all do the same and we'd have a reasonably complte collection. Same goes for wheels, mirrors, rust spots, carb adjustment, windscreen replacement and all the other subjects we search for.
Thought Cyf had also placed a comment but it appears to have disappeared. He's a great source of good photos. Would be great to see them all together for instance. Anyway you guys know what is going on more than I do. Just got enthusiastic so sorry if that got up anyone's nose.
Still prepared to help if there is something you could think of.
