Use glycerine to soften rubber and reinvigorate old windscreen rubber. Apply with a cloth leave as long as you can then wipe off next day.

I fitted the boot seal i had from Scots rubber very nice it is to. I approached the problem in a different way in that i fitted the boot seal and then done some closing and alignment tests . I also sprayed water all over to check for leaks. Then i used a mastic gun with a rubber adhesive cartridge, lifting the rubber and squeezing sealent/ glue inside the boot seal. Rape tape was used to hold it in position until it set .

Mastic gun ,, holds sealants normally used for sealing tiles or the gaps around baths or sinks. Rape tape,, grey tape used for duct work or holding things together by a cowboy builder.
Have i explained myself better ?

Sorry Dean, I now need to explain better.
I know what a mastik gun is and I assumed that rape tape was probably what we call duct tape, but I'm not sure I understand where you are applying the sealant.

When the seal was fitted , i lifted the edge of the rubber that fits over the metal lip of the boot . Then squeezed a bead of sealant/ adhesive along the inside edge. If you want to mail me, ill send a picture .
Ive started to do the door seals in the same way.

The gap at the bottom is much too wide! and the seal needs to sit fully into the bends. (1) Pick a very worm day! (2) Mark the half way point of the seal. (3)Start at the top in the middle working a few inches of the seal at a time, use a medium curing speed Super Glue. (4) Ensure it sits flat on the bends. (5) At the bottom lift the long lip gently with flat nose pliers to ensure the seal fits fully, tap down the lip when fully satisfied with the fit. the gap should be no more than about 1/8 inch. I used a Wadham Seal and the Boot closes perfectly without any adjustments.

Mine looks like contact adhesive was used. It grips well, but instantly. You don't get a second chance to make adjustments.

Ive got your email Warwick , give me a couple of days to sort the pictures. The biggest perk with using the mastic gun adhesive is that the seal is already fitted and you can test if the boot lid closes . Also fitting the seal around the boot hinges is a challenge with out using glue.
Trickyair only my humble opinion but i wouldnt start at the top in the middle, this i believe could give you water leaks. Best to start at one of the bottom corners.

Thanks Dean. No hurry.
I think you misunderstood Trickyair. He means place the middle of the seal at the centre top, and then work down both sides so that the join is at the centre bottom.
