David,
There is something that is disturbing me but it took a while before I picked up on it.
Whereas many forum contributors have a club logo or their own car pictured in an avitar you seem to have been allocated something less relevant and dare I say possibly somewhat modified? The resolution leaves something to be desired but the picture may contain something similar to a Saab logo (of all things non-British).
Is this the result of the ProBoards forum changes or a further advantage of club membership? Possibly somone photoshopping their earlier P5B? Could have been a Panelcraft at some stage judging by the breeze in the young man's hair. Is he in fact a rare example of a younger member? Is he Swedish?
Mildly disturbing indeed. The questions just keep coming.
Hopefully there is a simple explanation and it is not another ProBoards ploy to earn money. Do I get one of these if I tire of the picture of the Kia Picanto and go ads free?

Peter Very well spotted. It is a dastardly plan to assimilate the whole world (think the Borg from Star Trek, which spookily seemed to be named after a Swedish sportsman) by myself and the little munchkin in the photo, who also happens to be my grandson. The rocking car is based on the Ursaab - a stranger car would be difficult to find There is a link between Rovers and SAABs, however tenuous. The same company who made the leather for the Rover 3 litre also worked on my SAABs interior.

I hated it this morning, with the first colour and that very strange (enormous) default avatar watching me. It's a lot better now! It's reasonably quick on a decent computer (new Mac Mini) on a slowish internet connection (~3Mbps, as I have at home) but was almost unusable on a 6 year old computer on a much faster internet connection at work this morning. It seems there is more processing required for some reason (the ads?).
I have to say that overall it looks a bit 'dumbed down' to me, almost as though it's really designed for a tablet and just scaled up. This seems to be confirmed by its appearance on an iPad (through a browser not an 'app'), which definitely looks better than the big screen variant.
I believe it would look better if the avatars were even smaller (50x50 if they are 75x75 now), so that the average length post (says 5-10 lines) was about the same size as the avatar and member's details. To me a forum is about the content of the post, not the poster.
My main comment about the format (and it may have been exactly the same on the old one) is that it is a fixed width. It's probably determined by the width of the banner photo but it's not a feature I am keen on. I prefer everything to resize when I resize a window. Sometimes if you are doing other stuff, you want a relatively small browser open to one side of the screen. It's more modern, inasmuch as Windows has become Window with version 8, but it seems more of a throwback to a fixed width DOS application to me.
My default way of browsing new threads no longer works, as one is presented with posts, out of context, when the New Topics button is pressed. Clicking on a post title in this list takes you to the first post of a thread, rather than the latest, and there isn't a facility to jump to the first unread post, as some other forum software provides. I'll get used to it!
Search is so much better that that one improvement is worth putting up with any amount of pain elsewhere.
Thanks for your efforts
Tony

Like cyf I think this is a better colour and the Rover badge is nicer, but the hits at the top of the page have gone and no preview before posting.

Tony, I have reduced the default Avatar size - I agree it was a bit large. I am looking in to the page resize option. The problems you had this morning may have been me 'fiddling' with the layout.
Norvin. Re: Preview. If you look in the posting page (when you click reply), at the bottom of the table/box you should see on the bottom right "create post", correct? Opposite that, to the far left side you will see two tabs: Visual, and BBcode. If you click Visual, that will give you an instant live preview of your post.
You can go to your profile and set Visual to be your default

A bad mistake I feel, can't see it's much fun now. At least this guy is having some enjoyment ,polishing his car ! of course. How long will it be before it's removed I wonder?

Without meaning to pick nits, I did like the feature of the old board where once you logged in, the time stamp on everything changed to your local time. GMT is nice but my math isn't what it should be and having to subtract 8 hours to get my local time to see if I've read a post or not gets a bit old for me. Of course, since most of the posters to this forum are in the UK, I can see the advantage of sticking with GMT (which I perfer rather than UTC!).

Why change? I don't know, but it's not so different than the old one, and let's face it, In only two days, the look of the site improved very well, most of the critics were answered by David (colour, avatars in size and look, brightness.....) So if we tell him which detail we want to change, I'm sure he'll do it and therefore build this site in a way we feel good. For me, the best improvement of the new site is the "search" section, and the page numbers which stay at the top of the page when you scroll down

Just to keep you all aware: Colour: Changed from Blue to Bordeaux Font: Increased slightly for easier reading. Avatars: Decreased in size. Proboards default avatars are fixed. You can add your own (size is 75 x 75 pixels). I have now changed the default avatar to a club grille badge. Proboards will not be including a spell check. They expect you to use the one in your browser. support.proboards.com/thread/432018/add-spell-checkerMahatmacoat asked: There is no way I can tell where the post came from when looking at 'new topics'When you click on the message you are reading, you will see the section listed under the picture, below 'Home, 'New Topics' etc. Dull as dishwater that vid..... can it be translated to English please? - there appears to be some 'Americanism' in the spell check however: eg. if you type centre-it gives center (American)

Thanks for the smaller avatars and the 'Recent Threads' button. It's now a lot more usable.
