I don't know how many of these packs have survived with the P5b but I was looking through mine today for the first time for years and it really is a time warp package.
Apart from the Owners Maintenance Manual and the Instruction Manual there is the Rover Distributors and Dealers Book, the Market Research Questionnaire card, the Optional Equipment list, the invitation to join the Rover Owners Association, the Rover warranty and a leaflet explaining the difference between radial and crossply tyres.
The first owner of my car, the owner of the Connaught Hotel in London, purchased it from Martin Walter Ltd of Folkestone Kent and the PDI was carried out on 22121970.(What a great Christmas present!!) After that there are no service records until I bought it from Hurst Park Autos in 1980.By then the car was owned by his widow and on her death the car was sold. The owners did not fill in any of the optional documentation and I still have the postcard addressed to market research & statistical section,The Rover Company Limited,Solihull,Warwickshire,England. Postage not required as will be paid by THE ROVER CO LTD (The postcard is part no 605327!!
If anybody is still reading, this is the interesting bit!
Part no 605557 is the Optional Equipment for Rover Cars and part no 605611 is the price list dated May 1970 and the prices are given in LSD and decimal.(Who says Rover was out of date)
The prices cover all models available in 1970 so there are p5b extras and p6 extras.
Here are some of the mouth watering details but no prices are given for factory fitted items such as bench type rear seats, laminated windscreen, front headrests or two tone finish for the Coupe(recommended combination)
p/n 316564 Badge bar £2.20
p/n 385129 Rear head rests £8.00 (pair!!!)
p/n383764 interior mirror(dipping) £3.20
p/n358248 Roof rack £9.25 (I don't think I have ever seen one of these)
p/n 605695 Towing attachment(no electrics)£7.50
p/n 605693 electrics for above £9.60
All I can say is "Bargain"!!!
I'm glad I didn't through all this stuff away years ago as it is now interesting in its own right even down the the original owners pencil notes in the instruction manual reminding him of what the switches do!!
Has anybody else got the full pack still with their car?
Richard
