Sounds like these radials will soon be as expensive as proper tyres 185 is soooooooooooooo puny they look 'orrible but I know I am in a small minority I hope common sense prevails and Smallfry has some luck with the trims. They are much more important than tyres.Crossplies are readily available from specialists. With some exceptions, the club has not really been very active in providing parts for our cars and when I last received a magazine when I was a member the parts list read a bit like a small part of Wadhams catalogue. We needed rare and obsolete bits not filters and bearings. I think the project for tyres shows that things have not changed much Richard

It really depends what you use the car for.
Radials are far safer in modern day traffic than crossplies particularly old crossplies

If you will forgive the pun, I dn't think we need to re-invent the wheel over the tyre issue yet. New tyres are available, they are not scarce or obsolete. Just seek and ye shall find, then get out your cheque book, it's that simple.
Cheers

Richard E said: when I was a member the parts list read a bit like a small part of Wadhams catalogue. The difference at the time was the club prices on these parts were about a third of JRW's. This meant you could buy brake pads or track rod ends, join the club and still have some folding money left over from the figure quoted by JRW. To be fair to him, he did eventually drop prices to match the clubs - market forces and all that! I understand that some tyres are still available off the shelf. We were informed this stock will run out in due course and it is at this point the problem appears to arise. Vintage Tyres have now, after some investigations by Geoff, got a contract as sole supplier of NEW Vredesteins at £110 each - Forewarned is forearmed as the saying goes. HTH

A general question. If standard size is 185/15 and you changed from a 15 inch rim to a 16. To keep the same rolling circumference would you need to get 70 or 60 profile tyres?

I have the Vredestein Classics on my P5B Coupe, and they are available from www.mytyres.co.uk at £60.20 and that prices includes UK delivery and VAT . BARGAIN!! ;D Thanks to Roy Fellingham for the contact (www.mytyres.co.uk) Er.. that means Vintage Tyres are not the sole supplier doesn't it?

Adrian, Geoff Arther is the man in the know.
The problem appears to be not on existing stock, but future production.
