Recently, my car has occasionally behaved as if running out of fuel even though plenty in tank. If cruising at 70 - 75 mph all seemed well but if you wanted to accelerate or climb a steep incline (as on a steep stretch of dual carriageway) the car behaved as if running out of fuel. Car is running with Facet electric fuel pump.Standard Rover fuel filter seemed clear but a new one was fitted anyway. Friday night the fault was no longer intermittent - it was permanent so it was easier to trace. Turned out that the input filter/adapter to the electric pump had become restrictive (not blocked as far as could be seen). Without this filter/adapter in line, the flow of fuel from the tank was plenty but this was the only way to connect the fuel line to the pump. Any how - deep joy at finding the problem . Have ordered a new (non-filtered) adapter to connect to the fuel pump and all should be well. I should add that the fuel pickup on the tank was removed and examined - all OK - pickup filter was as clean as a whistle. Fuel reserve tap system was also checked and OK. Cheers Adrian

That's interesting Adrian, I had the same intermittent problem on the Supersnipe. OK along the straight but as soon as I put my foot down to maintain speed up a hill it felt as if it was missing a beat, and coughed. Two weeks later the electric fuel pump failed at 70mph on the A34. I now have a facet pump fitted and touch wood, no more running problems since. I found I have an inline filter fitted immediately after the outlet pipe on the fuel tank which is high up in the bodywork and not that easy to get at. Sometime I will have to bite the bullet though and get a new one fitted.

Pleased to report that I road tested the Rover last night and I feel confident that the fault is cured. Hard driving, up hills etc and no fault evident at all. I also surprised a large BMW, Omega and several smaller cars (If you know what I mean) Will be at the local Rover P5 area meeting on Wed. 27th at the Charnwood Arms, Bardon, near Coalville, Leics (with the Midlands Classic Car Club) from 7.30. We would be delighted to see any new faces and classic cars of any variety - all are most welcome.Cheers Adrian

In spite of last Wednesday (27th July) being very wet, we had 2 p5's, 2 P5B's and 1 P6B turn up, out of only about 10 cars in total.
Our car ran very well, fuel troubles are over.
Cheers Adrian
