Just reading the latest club magazine and noticed the advert to change your gearbox to a Jag XJ40 4 speed for £3560 plus VAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . Why would you spend that sort of money when you can get a rebuild for around £350 inclusive, it may be a good box but you could buy another good rover for that money Regards Colin

I agree but some want more from their P5B than Rover ever intended - its not quite original though?

Im not one for originality its just the cost, i also have a 1959 chevy apache stepside which i have been quoted £3000 to fit independent front suspension and power steering etc about a weeks work as the engine has to come out, compared with this it seems cheap Regards Colin

I am not bothered about originality either......I feel its an overrated concept I have nearly finished converting mine to a ZF four speed too. The attraction is the overdriven top gear, as the V8 in the P5B runs at a ridiculous speed when cruising at motorway speeds. In my view its a worthwhile real world upgrade as I dont regard my car as a museum piece. Looks like I will have to reproduce it as a kit !

Some one is missing the point here, the ZF gearbox is a superior 4 speed box that gives the car a very relaxed , overdrive type top gear which greatly reduces fuel consumption, noise, wear and tear. This is not a gear box swap just for the sake of it and involves new propshaft, linkages, speedometer drive, gearbox mountings not forgetting removal of old box, installation of new and setting up etc. Obviously of no interest to those with old bangers that are only worth £1500 - £2000 !!

By your comments Bertie, I imagine that you are the person selling this conversion ?

No, I am not selling these conversions, I have no connection with them whatsoever.
