Gents I have a bit of a problem…my fathers P5b gearbox has decided to give trouble normally this wouldn’t be a big problem as we could take it out and spend a bit of time fixing it. However my sister is getting married in two weeks and she wants this car (typical). Apparently she doesn’t like the colour of my P5b . What I am wondering is, will a SD1 box fit the P5b bell housing. I need to keep the original bell housing as it is mated to a non standard engine. Can anyone help please? P.S nice lookin car Glenn best of luck with it.

Cant help much with your problem, i think its fairly straightforward, but not a bolt on conversion.
What sort of non standard engine do you have ? Maybe it would be better to get a box to fit that ?

It’s a 2.2 Toyota engine. I know sacrilege…..there was a plate made to mount the P5b bell housing to the new engine hence the need to keep the p5 bell housing. My dad done this conversion 15 years ago and it give great service. The problem is there is no time to rebuild the p5 gearbox so he was looking for the quickest way to get the car back on the road.

I am interested in more about the conversions especially the power output and gearing can you tell us more about it.
Sorry cannot help with the bellhoudsing but I am certain soemone out there knows - if it thats bad the box has to come out anyway so why not try it.
What is wrong with the box anyway?
