After a break of some 38 years, I have now taken the plunge and bought another P5! Infact only I purchased it yesterday bringing it home from Parley Cross.
I just became fed-up with "computerised" cars....
I believe it is known to the club, and hopefully it may have the opportunity to reacquaint with fellow P5'ers.
There is a lot to do but as it is running it will be refurbished as I go along.
The first important item is the Auto Box - Judders in low gears.
Then comes the paintwork - the bonnet seems to have succumbed to a poor respray at some time. - A QUESTION... as I always had saloons in the past and this is a Coupe', were the roof colours always in contrast to the main body? I am thinking of painting it the lighter colour.
I have the rev counter to sort as this seems to stay at 1500 to 2000 revs even switched off! and occasionally creeps up to say 2500. must be "glupy" inside some where.... QUESTION can these be repaired/stripped and cleaned? ( by a DIYer)
I am jumping in at the deep end and hoping (gearbox pending) to make the Sherbourne Castle Show next weekend - any one else going?
I have a lot of history to catalogue so when that’s done, I may have a clearer idea of what has happened to the ol’girl in the past.
PS I was trying to add some photo's - how do I do that?

Welcome back Chuckles. Nice to see you have returned to your rootes, or your rover in ths case . If you need to post pictures it would be best to join a photo hosting site, then upload your pics there and copy the link to your forum post. As for your questions, someone with a lot more knowledge than me will be along shortly to answer them . Great bunch on this forum.

Good luck with your baby.

Two Tone was an option on the "P5B" Coupe at an outrageous cost of £12-5-10

Not that I noticed - only drivern about 30 miles so far, but if anything it is reluctant to change at low revs, and certainly doesn't drop down that noticeable.

Check the fluid level as a first job, but if it's late changing up, or shifting as it should be then it won't be what I was thinking of, and if it's a DG box that pretty much is the limit of my knowledge.

Now I am getting confused...... I was told that the gear box is the DG type as used in the 1962/3 Mk II 3 ltre cars.
In fact the subject of changing fluids and filters became a priority so I propose to start there. Just have to find the correct fluid and a filter source now.
I am also going to do the "change all fluids" routine, so hopefully with new engine and gearbox oil & filters, brake fluid and coolant we should have a happy car!

I'm Sorry, but being a total computer nerd, I am perplexed on how to upload photos. It didn't work for me.... Attachments I can handle but photbucket.... no!

I have been told it was well known.... Is it a genuine London car Chuck or a replacement registration?

It will be a DG box and correct fluid level is critical. With small LH column switch UP it should start in 2nd with lever in D and smoothly move up to top at approx 20 mph. Moving column switch down will give a brisker 1st speed start as will flooring the accelerator.
Duo tone saloons had the colour break at the middle chrome trim lines (but not Mk3's) - Only Coupes had it on the roof as with the P5B's.
No coach lines!
AAB is a Worcs CC indentifier but my records do not indicate it was ever issued with an A suffix - only B from Jan 64 and H from Sept 1969. This would therefore indicate its lost its original plate about 20 years ago.
What colour is it? The late Dorsetflyer's AKA John Andrews had a similar registration?

I have been told it was well known.... Is it a genuine London car Chuck or a replacement registration? Started life in the Midlands then down here in the Dorset. The original registration was on a private plate (from a scooter or similar) the became the current registration when first sold. I am piecing the history together slowly and should have an idea of dates later.

Thank you so much for showing the photos. It is the first pictures I have seen of its previous life.
I did learn from some where that the owner had died, and I am very sorry to hear of that.
My intentions are to continue to show the car and keep up the traditions of upkeep, improvements and restoration.
I do hope everyone approves. We are now booked (not as yet not confirmed in writing) for the show at Sherborne Castle next Weekend. The car was there the past two years, according to the plaques with the car. I wonder what happened to the badges on the badge bar?
