Looking for any recommendations for professional restorers or trustworthy garages near Nottingham.
Want to get my P5B Coupe back on the road and need small amount of welding and few other mechanical and bodywork related jobs doing. Really just want to get it Mot'd, it only failed last time on leaking PAS resevoir, but time laid up has developed few other concerns. Alas am unable to do any further work myself for rest of year and do not want to wait until next year.
Preferably need somewhere close by as not really roadworthy apart from no Mot and no way of transporting save professional transportation.
Any advice greatfully received.
Best regards

Bramcote Hills Garage on the A52 may be of help and its not too far from you to be transported. Its illegal to drive a car without an MOT on public roads and if its unroadworthy your insurance is invalid which is another offense and could be costly Ps there is no such thing as a small amount of welding on one of these cars! ;D What exactly is needed? My MOT testing place can do small repairs under supervison Hope you get sorted out -

The welding is to replace the panel underneath battery tray (which I have new part) and hole size of 50 pence piece in boot floor by boot lip.
Whilst there is now quite a bit of surface corrosion underneath she is basically solid having been fully restored in 1994.
On mechanical side engine needs tuning (possibly carbs need attention), PAS pipes need replacing, exhaust downpipes need tightening to manifolds, handbrake linkage needs some attention, could do with new discs and rear spring hangers (rubber) could do with replacing. The last job I did was complete brake overhual, calipers, master cylinder, fluid, but discs I bought would not fit so put old ones back on.
Really looking for garage can trust to do battery tray and if they have ramp can underseal underside whist at it. Then the few relatively minor mechanical jobs.
Anyway thanks for your advice Phil and I'll pop along and have a look at Bramcote Hills Garage.

Hi John, don't want to worry you but replacing the boot corner under the battery tray usually turns into a bigger job if corrosion has got inside the chassis, spring hanger or rear panel. I suppose a simple patch would do but its best to cut the hole area out and replace with a preformed panel. Tightening the downpipes may well also result in new manifold nuts or studs as they are not very strong after all these years!
For replacing rear spring bushes use Landrover series 2/3 engine mounts.

Thanks for the advice on the suspension bushes Roy, useful tip.
As for the battery tray, I have the complete section from Wadhams and fortunately the rust is confined to the area around the drain hole only.
One area I'm unsure of is behind the rear valance which seems to be made up of thin pieces of metal sheet at various angles, tack welded on. I've looked at couple of other cars and they appear the same, but looks very rough to me?
Regards
John NottsCharger (though not so charging at present!)

The rear inner valance should be a complicated pressing which is often missing on many P5's having rusted away at the same rate as the inner wings. Having pointed this out to current owners they are often do not believe it was ever there. Yours has been "restored" and because of its weired shape bitsa fabrication/patching is the only answer unless a better one is removed from a doner car.
If the corrosion is just confined to the battery tray drain hole its not an MOT fail unless the battery is about to drop through the floor but the point about the spring hangers is a real problem

Cheers for that Phil
I think I will still get the panel under the battery tray replaced.
Fortunately as for spring hangers their solid as a rock, well were last time I looked.
Car used to belong to Shane Maskill, one time Nottingham club rep and is credit to him how good and solid it is.
Fingers crossed I can get it sorted before good weather arrives.

The MOT covers a certain measured area around the spring hangers, so this is the reason it has to be fixed.

Quite correct and it is the MOT inspectors view that counts anyway. I new both Shane and car and "inspected" it shortly after he finished it in 1992? Let me know if Bramcote Hills no good to you Ps not sure if it had sill trims
