Good Morning
I recently purchased my first P5B coupe. The front passenger seat recline will not lock. every time I take a passenger in my car the seat back falls backwards under the passenger weight. Can anyone advise on how to adjust to stop this happening?
Many thanks

The tension on the torsion bar can be adjusted, and the procedure is detailed in the workshop manual (section U 34). Bit long winded to post and diagrams needed to clarify parts involved. Do you have access to a manual?
I seem to recall that it was also covered in a Take 5 some time back, maybe someone can remember which issue and forward a reprint?

Thanks. I have just got my WSM (this morning) It looks an easy job. Does anyone have a copy of the relevant "Take 5" ? Jinx

Procedure was covered by Tom Wilson in issue 113, June 2004. Scan of this is available here: Hope this helps.

Will this procedure cure a 'non-locking' seat? As in the locking lever runs out of travel before the seat back is secured enough not to collapse under the weight of a reasonably sized adult? I get the feeling a friction plate needs adjusting rather than a torsion spring. Or are they part and parcel of the same thing? By the way, WSM is on order so can't look in there just yet Simon H

The adjustment procedure as outlined above should enable you to get a correct adjustment, unless of course there is something broken or adrift within the mechanism, but I think this unlikely. There are no friction pads as such, it is just metal to metal friction and clamping, very basic but effective if properly set up.

Thanks for the info, I will give it a try and report back in due course (possibly with pictures if anybody would be interested?).

I think Cyf might have photographed it all and posted on here before. I certainly remember it being covered .
Try search?

Jinx All depends on who the passenger is
