Well it had to happen one day, after 15 years of ownership, my Rover broke down and I ended up coming home of the back of a recovery truck After a lovely and trouble free run down to Bournemouth Saturday, a scenic run on Sunday I was on my way home round the M25 when the car suddenly started to snatch the steering towards the right (wheel bearing best guess so far). Top marks to the RAC I rang them at 4.50pm, told them the problem they didn't bother to send a roadside repairer but contracted the job straight out to a local company who attended with a flatbed and recovered me to Harpenden arriving home 90 minutes after the first call. At least I was able to drive on and off the flat bed.

Sorry to read of your incident. It's never nice to 'failto proceed' in any car. Glad it turned out ok. Will you post the results of a post mortem into the failure? Regards

:'(Bad luck we will await the post mortem - it happened three times to me last year.
The first time the "never fail" Lumenition unit did just that and I am still running on the reliable CB's etc.
The second time in a month was when one of the oil cooler flexipipes detached spreading ATF all over the front disk break and manifold - loads of smoke and unusual braking from 70mph on the M1
The third when in my P2 the contact breaker earthing failed....
I used GEM recovery for the first two but towed myself home in the Land Rover with the P2

Post mortem results are in; It was the OSF wheel bearing which failed. It got so hot it is now stuck leaving the option of heating it up again and trying to bash it out or fitting a replacement stub axle. Dave Green to the rescue and he can provide a replacement so hopefully back on the road again next week.
