Download and install this add-on to your browser. disconnect.meIt's great. It blocks all those annoying pop-up ads and banners, stops Google and other sites from tracking your browser so they can target ads to you, etc. But the best thing is that when all this stuff that goes on in the background is blocked, your browser and computer speed up. It adds a little icon to the top of your browser page and this shows you how many things it has blocked and what they are attempting to do.

Hi Warwick...where do you find the download file?

It's a confusing web page, isn't it Vince. You click on the big rectangular button the says "Get Disconnected". Your browser may block it and ask you if it's okay to download. It is safe. I didn't stubble on this. Charles Wright recommended it a few weeks ago in his weekly "Bleeding Edge" computer column in the Green Guide in The Age.

Vince I can find it. It's toward the top on the left hand side. Perhaps not as large as you would like it to be.
Might travel down to Melbourne to get to the bottom of this Warwick!!

I can't believe the difference this has made to my browser speed!!! i run Norton 360 with daily registry fix with full system scan and weekly defrags. I also run CC. Cleaner as a quick fix in between and none of them have increased my browsing speed noticeably. This is superb thank you!

Thanks Peter...still no go though. There's reference to Disconnect 2 and a grey coming soon box on the left. If I go to the bottom of the page on the left there's a list of 'products' one of them being Disconnect. If I click on that...briefly for a millisecond 'get disconnect appears' and then quickly becomes the Disconnect 2 coming soon box. I'm using IE 10 and Windows 7.
As an aside, there are a hell of a lot of pop-ups and annoying ads on this forum

I'm using Firefox and Windows 7, Vince. Maybe it looks different. I'll have a look on my laptop tomorrow and maybe try it in IE and give you a call. Might be able to figure it out between us if we're both looking at the same screen. It isn't a well laid out website though.

Thanks for the pointer Warwick. Internet pages definitely load much quicker on Google Chrome. Bad news for sites like this one that raise cash from people clicking on the banner ads though...

As an aside, there are a hell of a lot of pop-ups and annoying ads on this forum Vince, I just tried it with Internet Explorer 10 and I get the same thing you get. It looks like they don't have it available for IE10 yet. I gave up on IE several years ago and have been using Firefox ever since. Can't remember why - it was doing something that was annoying me. Simon, I thought about that but the number of people who block ads and pop-ups would be a tiny fraction, and I've also yet to see an ad that was of any interest to me. The ads that I get here are either from my bank or from those moronic sites promising untold wealth working from home on the internet, weight-loss miracles, and dodgy teeth-whitening products. Not to mention the hundreds of young women who are apparently eager to meet me, that seem to live in a nearby tiny rural town with a population of about two dozen.

Excellent, even works on Firefox on a Mac. Google searches take a fraction of the time they used to take.
There is a note buried in the FAQ about a version for IE being under development, so keep checking if you are one of its few fans.
