I have recently replaced the under bonnet stickers on my lovely coupe. I first stripped the panel then painted the underside gloss black. The paint finish was disappointing so I have painted the top of the panel in Silver Birch and I hope that you will agree that it looks stunning [/URL]

Very pristine and presentable. You're obviously got some OCD traits.

Thanks for the comments, OCD - me !!!!! The grey paint on the engine came from Roverpart when Gordon Stacey had his shop in Croydon, now long gone, but if you have a paint supplier near you they should be able to match it to one of the elbows, Halfords may even be able to do it.

See my post on this.
I found the standard ral colour called basalt grey to be v close at my powder coaters.
You can use the ral chart to get machinery enamel mixed but I found powder is cheaper.

Barryr:
Thank you very much for the tip & i'll have a look for your post.
Lagain:
Thank you also for the info but unfortunately, the elbows were repainted in what appears to be quite a dark Grey so matching them won't help i'm afraid.
I did participate in a thread a while ago on this & come to the conclusion that Massey Ferguson Grey was close to the original but at the time, I never persued it.
I now want to try to tidy up the engine bay.

I bought 2 MFN greys based on similar posts. Neither were remotely close to my manifold! I am pretty certain my manifold was original. There is tons of misinformation out there on this and I don't understand why it's such a secret! On the ral chart the actual original colour was somewhere between basalt grey and the next one. In truth the original was slighty bluer than the shade I selected. Here is how they looked www.dropbox.com/s/1ppwxbwigfxls6b/shiny%20020.JPG

The grey colour matching is difficult before I did mine last year I sourced three original elbows 2 used and one NOS with the part number still on and guess what! they were all different shades of grey assuming the original one had never been subject to heat etc I used it as the pattern colour and after spending a lot of time I matched it, the swatches the powder coat guys have are just a guide the colours may/will vary! so it's best endeavors Here is what mine came out like. There are some more pics your welcome to have a look here s88.photobucket.com/user/johnwp5bcoupe/library/?sort=3&page=1 I prefer black BTW it is the correct colour last century or not no offence George Colour Coded Rostyle's any one

Hi Mike,
I know I should be talking about powdercoating but I am wondering why you are using a Malysian Airlines flight number?
I'm sure you'll profess to having a surname beginning with H (Hairways?)but we really now do have to get to the bottom of this matter. This has been going on long enough.
Hoping for an honest answer.
Sincerely,
Peter

I had mine powder coated but would need to check back the colour code. I felt that as long as everything under my bonnet matched it was good enough.
Colour coded rostyles, i have them ;-)
Lovely engine bay. I
Colin

Hi Peter
That was great, I had a chuckle & didn't even give that a thought !
My surname is Heavens, does that count ?
I did hear this morning that regarding the Malaysian flight, they have found the Wings.........................Mr & Mrs Wing have said they don't know where the plane is though !!
I sincerely hope I haven't offended anyone but Peter started it !!!
Cheers,
Mike

Hey Warwick in Dutch they say onkruid vergaat niet which means weeds don't go away!! Had to look up that other MH flight number. This latest one might have ended the same way? Must be unpleasant thinking back almost forty years. You must have been very young then....?!
Mike if your last name is really Heavens then I shall have to forgive your sense of humour! The aged Wing family are no chickens.
Colin colour coded Rostyles? Could this be a solution to the damaged Rostyle problem with evryone looking for new originals. Just colourcoded recolour them for a sort of P5 look.

Very young, Peter! If only that were true. I was in my late 20s. I lived and worked in Singapore in the late '70s and the week before the crash, my boss in Melbourne asked me if I'd go up to Taiping in Malaysia on the weekend to look at a factory, with a view to relocating from Singapore. I was going to fly to Penang on Saturday, hire a car, drive to Taiping, do the inspection, and then return to Singapore on Sunday. The return flight would have been MH653. They told me by telegram (ah, those were the days!) that I should buy the tickets myself and they would reimburse me later. I didn't like that idea, so I suggested that they organize the tickets and I'd pick them up at the airport. I rang the airport on Saturday morning, there were no tickets waiting for me, so I didn't go. The plane hit the ground just over 10km from where I was sitting in my apartment watching TV that Sunday night. I lived under the flight path.
I'd be careful encouraging Colin too much. He hasn't said what they are coloured coded to. It might be the family tartan.

God moves in mysterious ways, Warwick. You must have felt very strange...and fortunate and I can imagine you still do.
Perhaps you were spared to look after older cars and contribute to this forum...and spur on Vince of course. Surviving the local fires is also the same protection system working. I can see that now.
Like the idea of tartan Rostyles.Presumably tubeless tyres?!!! Bet they would sell a bundle. Imagine that bagpipe noise as you inflate them to the right pressure.

Your correct with that assessment Peter...Good heavens, I've just had an epiphany. Why didn't I realize that! God left Warwick on Earth so that he could 'spur me on' with my technical posts/threads on the Rover P5 Club forum. See, He does have a divine purpose for each and every one of us! You don't have to thank me Warwick

They are only colour coded because my car is black to match the inserts of the RO-styles.

You have an interesting imagination Peter. (Or have you been on the turps again?) Yes it can be a strange feeling sometimes. There was a time when I wondered how much of what I remembered of the incident was real. All I knew was what was in the papers at the time. And then along came Messrs Yahoo and Google, and I learnt a lot more. I used to keep a print-out of a report off the web on my office wall. If I was having a bad day at work, it would remind that it wasn't that bad at all.
Don't worry Vince; it's a free service.
Colin, don't you mean you have a colour-coded car?
Back to the inlet manifold - I wonder why Rover painted it and didn't leave it bare aluminium? They did with the Range Rover 2 or 3 years later. (Or was that just Leyland cost-cutting?)

Hey stay safe Warwick! And don't knock the turps...everything else is taxed out of sight.
Is that Malaysian plane now south west of you? There is definitely more to this than meets the eye. It was going to China.
Don't fly Malaysian might not be bad practice!
