Tony, Thanks for the offer. Are you north of Harwich or more direction London? If i go to the UK, i normally take the Calais Dover ferry but could use the ferry to Harwich. Tim, You mention green tinted. How green is that? All screens on the P5 are clear, aren't these? Peter I'm in Rochester, Kent . About 45 mins from Dover . Rover glass came in clear, green and blue I believe. The green would be subtle. As I say I'm still shopping around as I guess some people would want clear and others tinted .

Unless the tint is extremely subtle I would be favouring clear glass. Its easier to add tints afterwards, not so easy to remove.

Tim,
Good news on the heating element, but I'm afraid I'd prefer clear, too.
£400 + VAT is getting a bit on the high side for me, as well, probably £500 with VAT and a bit of diesel to nip over to Kent. The good thing is that more buyers would get it down quite quickly.
Maybe the club might like to buy (or at least make a significant contribution towards) the tooling. Presumably it could be held and used to make further batches in the future?
Peter, I'm 50 miles west of Harwich (about the same distance north east of London), but you are probably better going to Dover, if that's your normal route. The Harwich trip is long and boring. To do it twice in quick succession wouldn't be my idea of fun.
Tony

That would have been nigel bootham. I remeber the article. Will have a google for it. He still writes for practical classic so could be contacted. Colin Thanks Colin , that would be useful. I had an e-mail from a chap who obtained a screen for a 1950s american car a while back, the firm was in Finland and called Kuttilan Autolasi. I dont think its the same one mentioned in that article but they apparently also make one off screens. You would think there would be firms over here who could do the same thing wouldn't you?. Best of luck Colin,I hope your efforts are rewarded.

I have had to concede defeat on this one. The original price I was quoted turned out not to be the final figure. I have tried various other companies, but the price is ridiculous. The tooling cost is the problem. Maybe this is something the club could look at.

Any progress on the rear Screen for the coupe' yet?
I am looking for a heated one (green tinted or clear)- maybe if I am lucky the old one in good order will come out in one piece!
I have a saloon rear screen and trim up for grabs if anyone wants one (free to a good home!). It has the heater element but the contacts were broken off. It would mean using the liquid solder stuff to join in some new wires.

laminated screens are not tempered glass so more likely to crack than a toughened one would splinter. I have seen them on ebay recently but I think DG will be your best bet. I see this old thread which might be helpful: Thread Summary Posted by Tim Goddard17 Apr 2014 at 16:30 I have been in contact with a company that could produce new rear coupe screens. The one off cost is high, but a run of five or more would bring the cost down - £400 ish I'm told. Less if more than five. Would anyone be interested? I think we all have an interest in having a supply available into the future. Otherwise if one goes then the car is off the road - period!
I will be seeing the chairman on Wednesday and will bring this up, see if the Club can help with initial costs.

I cant see this being an item the club needs to stock IMHO it's an expensive item! how many rear coupe screens are needed in a year? then to be fair you would have to stock Saloon rear screens!! front screens?? Far better to stock spares that help the every day running of our cars again IMHO!

You make a very fair point John. What I was suggesting was to have the jig/tooling made by a known manufacturer, Pilkingtons even, so that individuals could order as and when needed.

Front and back screens for P5b Coupe`s are available from Pilkingtons. I have a new laminated front in my garage and will fit it later in the year. I am waiting to see if I can get any new chrome trims I did get a new top but would like the rest. bit like finding hens teeth.
I have my own windscreen company and have been involved for 44 years, but am not looking to fit Rovers they are a pain in the back side.
Got the Rubber from Aus.

Someone in a previous post said that Pilkingtons had told them they were not available, only for the front. Seems odd, they do both for the P6. Perhaps a word with them by the club to check and if they have taken them out of there range then to have them reinstated.
