How do you decorate a P5 for weddings? I use paper "ribbons" tied round the sun visor brackets but i find that they s-t-r-e-t-c-h especially if a motorway journey is required - they flail out sideways in high winds then look like limp skipping ropes when stationary. I have now fixed a split ring behind the top visor plate fixing screw in order to prevent the ribbon from rolling down the windscreen/door post to see if that helps. I also use a bunch or pom-poms on the top of the radiator near the badge but again it flips up on to the bonnet when in motion then droops down again. Any better ideas please?

HI Eric, I use the ribbon that the florists use. I think it is about 2" wide. I tie it around the sun visor brackets like you do, then with the bonnet slightly ajar I wrap it once around the dog clip (bonnet spring) and tie it off on the other visor. When you push the bonnet down to shut it should go more taught. I also tend to put a bouquet on it to finish it off nicely. This is tied to the grille.

Glenn, I found the florists nylon ribbon to be very abrasive on the paint. Did you check afterwards? Was it a one off wedding or have you done several like that?

Done a few now for friends with std florist type ribbons with no problem, just make sure you have a few layers of good polish on the bonnet silk ribbons would be better but expensive for one day!

Did quite a few weddings with my Bentley & also used florist ribbon.
I also used to attach the ribbon to the sun visor mount.
Paper ribbon is no good at all really.
As John has already said though, make sure you have plenty of polish on any area's the ribbon may rub.

Eric, you're obviously using the wrong type of adhesive.

I use ribbon provided by the florist who also makes up the silk arrangement on the rear window. I thought the ribbon was silk until she said last week that i shouldn't re-use it on more than one wedding because it was only a treated paper, which prompted my question. Even though I tie it to the visor bracket and duck tape in the windscreen post before closing the door onto it to tighten it up, it still stretches. Perhaps a cloth material would be better even thought i might have to launder it and press it like a 4-metre tie! Oh, and Glenn has my pom-pom!

That's a bit strange.
When I was doing weddings, I actually purchased the florist ribbon in rolls which I just cut to length.
I never had any issues with stretching & literally just looped it around the Bentley mascot (I improvised a cloth 'shield' to protect the grille & bonnet) & tied it off at both ends on the sun visors.
By leaving a little slack with the doors open, by the time they were closed, it was nice & taught.
I also used to have a ribbon arrangement like a flower for the front end similar to the second picture in the original post.
I only used to use the ribbon once but only because by the time it was all untied, it would be all creased in the middle & at the ends.
On the P5/P5B, I would certainly have some protection on the bonnet where the ribbon comes over the front end !
I also used to use a silk flower arrangement for the rear window.
Is this treated paper a newish thing for ribbon ?

Seems I have been doing all the right things then. Might just consider fabric (silk) ribbon to dispose of if they become to difficult to launder for re-use. I am not mean - just careful! Oh - and Glenn's car is Hampshire registered too! Thanks gentlemen for your interest.
