Thinking of changing my P5b 3.5l Coupe to electronic ignition. Any recommendations and advice would've greatly appreciated. Is it worth it?
thanks
Phil

Very much so! In my case I used Lumenition. Also installed 90 HA battery. After that was as reliable as any modern car. Even in the depth of pre-global warming winter!

Is it worth it? thanks Phil8 Fitted Lumenition system in 1988 and no problems since. Improved performance etc. Single points in a V8 with the original dizzy are going to be marginal at best. The optic system in Lumenition negates anything other than severe wear. Apart from Radial tyres, electronic ignition is the only mod a P5b needs

Is it worth it? thanks Phil I just fitted one from the Distributor Doctor and it is great, I am hoping to keep points and condenser as a backup but probably might never have to use. Yes worth it Vee

I have used Pertronix on other cars for years and now also on my Rover. Works great!

I have an Aldon magnetic points in my original rebuilt distributor.
I had it rebuilt by H&H ignition solutions who I can recommend. They will even supply a complete electronic unit for around £100, I think worth a call.

I've got a powerspark kit ready to go in but need to change coil to non ballasted type also. Not got round to it yet. Very good value and can flip points back in easily if required.

Added Pertronix in 2004 to my p5b, never had a problem since, but didn't have much of a problem prior either just didn't want the hassle.

And I've fitted a Powerspark dizzy coupled with a Aldon Amythyst programmable controller which allows switching between 2 advance curves for petrol and LPG.

Enigmas, I saw the Powerspark dizzy on Ebay - click here and asked the vendor about running it with petrol and LPG. They came up with the combination of their dizzy and the Aldon Amythyst controller. The dizzy supplied to me is customised in that it has vacuum and centrifugal advance disabled (the Aldon Amythyst deals with all that stuff). The Aldon allows 2 ignition advance maps to be selected at the flick of a switch. It can store about 10 maps but can only have 2 in active service at a time. In my case the map advances about 18 degrees when switching to LPG but it could equally be set up for road and track, or economy and race for a single fuel car. Ignition maps are fully programmable via the supplied software. The package cost around £350 including dizzy, Aldon Amythyst and a suitable Lucas coil. The contact details of the guy I dealt with are below. please feel free to ask if you need any more info.
