Afternoon gents, As the title says really - sidelights and main beam 'flasher' are working ok but I have no dipped beam for some reason, I've checked both fuses and they're fine and even replaced them with new ones just to check again and still no joy. Everything else on the car works fine except this - even the clock! Any thoughts please? Thanks in advance - got a chap coming to view the car on Saturday and would like to sort it asap Nidge.

Have you tried moving the other lever on the steering column?

It's unlikely, but nevertheless possible, that both the SBUs have blown the dipped filament. If the fuses are OK then the next place I'd look at is the dipswitch.

Check the supply at the dipswitch - connections can fail/fall off and the switch can seize as it turns round inside

Harvey and Phil - many thanks, will have a look tomorrow... it hadn't occured to me at all to look at the dipwsitch. I know the forum can be quiet at times and some owners don't bother with it at all, but what a great thing it is - once again many thanks

On mine it was the light switch that caused same problem. I removed it, cleaned it and bound it back together with small cable ties. Been ok ever since!

Another vote for the dipswitch. Had the same trouble in the past.

I went to drive home last night and found neither head lamp working. The side, tail, and brake lamps work fine, and the parking light setting on the light switch works properly, and the high beam flasher on the column works fine. The high beam warning light does not come on when I use the dip switch. Checking the wiring diagram I suspect this could then be a faulty light switch in the pod, a faulty dip switch connection, or perhaps a faulty headlamp on/off stalk switch on the column. Is there an easy way to determine where the problem lies? Since the high beam flasher works, I assume there is not a problem with the wiring to the head lamps or their earthing. All advice appreciated before I delve into the dark spaces under the dashboard and pod!

Lacking any further tricks to isolate the cause of both headlamps failing, I decided to evaluate the dip switch first, and then the headlight pod switch 2nd if no cause found before. Fortunately after taking the dip switch loose from the mount I discovered that the blue power lead into the dipswitch had been barely making contact, and finally failed. After repairing this all is well again. The trick was to find that the column flasher switch worked both headlamps properly, so I didn't have to waste time checking out all the wiring and earth points running from engine bulkhead to the lamps.
