Very nice work. I concur with John...they do look like MK3 seats with the very thick backs.

Thank you Barry. Yes john they are the MK3 seats, i dont know why as its a 69 model but i'm pretty sure it came from the factory that way although its only the dunlopillow thats thicker and they dont have that disintigrated chip foam, as for the seat frames i think they're exactly the same.

The frames must be different? as they encroach into the rear passenger leg room, if the off set was to the front it would work out the same? and as we know it isn't

Some highly skilled and quality work being done. My drivers seat has the common problem of decent leather but crumbling foam Everytime I sit on the seat it loses a bit more filling which looks like multicoloured foam and falls through the bottom The seat has lost its support and softness. It's a bit like having good teeth but rotten gums! The passenger side isn't so bad because it doesn't get used much and the rears are almost as new although I assume they are filled with the same foam as the fronts These are very recent pictures for insurance purposes.

That looks very nice Resurgam. i know what you mean, but i'd leave the rears alone as you say they're hardly ever used. the fronts well yes the chipfoam is replaceable and the hollows in the dunlopillow can be stuffed with other dunlopillow scraps and that would give you your firm density back, but when i've done that in the past it always looks like the seats have been pumped up with a bycycle pump as of course the original creases are still there and never go away. But anyway, if you want to come over one weekend (MK42) we can "stuff-em-up" sort-of speak !

Hello John,, oh no i didnt mean it would support the sides of the seats, what i meant was that just changing the chipfoam will boost and support it again but will leave the top part (dunlopillow part) still a bit on the soft side especially the sides part. These 3 pics show how to remedy that. Attachment Deletednorvin, i think the going rate for a total retrim is a couple of grand.

Having done all my seats the Dunlopillow wasn't an issue getting the replacement foam (for the Chip Foam) the correct grade height and shape was not a simple job! taking care when removing the Skins so you don't tear the Dunlopillow is very important it should be gently scraped away not pulled! all the Chip Foam was tapered not straight sided so had to be shaped The Dunlopillow you show mickum was that from a MK3 if it was I wouldn't have expected Chip Foam but a good quality foam probably Yellow in colour? Does the 2K include all new skins and re-foam? Door Cards and rests/pockets? all the other bits of trim like kick panels, carpets? Headlining? just so the guys know what is involved These are my seats after doing my re-foam What you are sitting on!!

Hello John, That interior looks really nice on yours i'm not sure if the seats are coloured or new skinned either way it looks wonderful. Probably the best i've seen.! This refoaming thats been mentioned on here several times now is NOT such a big deal. You're a clever bloke and you can turn your hand to anything so i bet you found it harder sourceing the stuff than actually doing the job itself. ( i wish more classic car owners took the bull by the horns and used logic, common sense, and a bit of physics, mathematics and geometry and i'm sure most people will surprise themselves at their capabilities). ok now to answer your questions, the dulopillow you see in the pics is not off a MK3 but off a p5b with the skinny seats and the green-grey chipfoam which of course was more like dust than anything else when i removed it. The chipfoam i'm using in the pics i'm going to put up i,ve had for twenty odd years and was used on public transport buses and trains. (only got a few left) but there is some on ebay that is firm enough to do the job www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-VERY-FIRM-UPHOLSTERY-FOAM-20-X20-X2-CHIP-FOAM-/361327048149?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5420c535d5 anyway the guys on here will see how easy it is to get it right if they want to have a go at it themselves. As for pricing, i'm not really interested john as i'm pretty much retired now (long story) and i wouldn't mind helping fellow p5ers out every now and then especially if they're stuck but you know a full retrim with headling carpets doorcards etc would take 3 to 4 weeks full time on it as these cars have so many design floors on the interior that most of the time is in the detail to correct it ; ie; doorcards that dish inwards, front seat back panel that never clips back without annoying gaps, headlining on a frame that shouldn't have been, carpets that aren't really carpets but a fur moquette wrapped around some felt and then seamed together with binding etc oh dont get me wrong I LOVE THEM, but i'd rather work on a jag than a rover anytime. The 2K i mentioned is what i think trim shops are charging but that would only be for seats and doorcards and rear shelf. I'll find out what my cousins would charge (Baldassarre and MJ upholstery bedford) as they are still trading.

A great series of pics mickm by a professional well done gives an idea of how complicated the seats are! My skins/covers are original I restitched the usual places, I used Wadding before fitting the covers, used Woolies colourant it's now not so in your face and had a more natural look as the original creases as you say eventually come back which does give a bit of character I queried the 2k as I know from some members what they have been quoted/paid!!! at least they now know your an enthusiast as well a guy who knows his trade
