Hello, The guys I've got working on it are classic specialist although of the VW variety. They said they were trying to pump the new fuel directly to the engine, they said they will drain the old tank. However the engine failed to even turn over, and they weren't sure what the problem is. They said they will be back today. In the mean time my dad has dug out a pile of old documents for the car, and some old photos of the car that my dad took in the mid 90's when it was looking at its best. I'll get them on here soon. As Richard says but pour about 50 mill of Diesel down each bore regardless if it turns over! turn it over several times leave it for a few hours turn it over again to get rid of the diesel then fit "new plugs", make sure the petrol is "fresh" and you have "spark" and it should start, that old engine is a good old workhorse it will start as long as it isn't seized!! Good Luck

Great photos - that is not "The Radford division" as not apparently demountable from just resting on a standard bench seat which had no "picnic" table.
This is clearly a coachbuilder's bespoke effort including the whole front seat which could be Radford or Vanden Plas say not a clip on accessory and probably beyond in-house Rover Co by then. If fitted from new om order Rover would have subcontracted the work and would not have been cheap!
This is a truly unique motor and I do hope you can get it back on the road and find out who commissioned it. A DVLA vehicle inquiry will list all the previous owners

Great I didn't know it was possible to make such a enquiry with the DVLA. I have the last keeper from a copy of my Dad's old log book but there isn't much useful info there.

A fee is payable but well worth it if the old Buff or Green local authority LOG BOOK(S) (handwritten) are not held as some were returned to the registered keeper when all licensing transferred to Swansea DVLA computer in the late 1970's

The engine has seized, we've put diesel in each bore and left it to soak in.

Bad luck. Let's hope it frees up easily.

Going to ask a stupid question, but they have drained the old oil and replaced the oil filter? I know it will not help the seized problem, but if when it starts, you want clean oil not sludge reaching the bearings.
Lovely photos BTW. You are a very lucky man.
PS: your mechanic does know not to try forcibly to turn the engine, but instead to give each piston top a gentle tap with a mallet and wood dowel through the plug hole?

Yes I know the oil change is one of our first jobs however I've read that I should wait till after the engine is undersized as I will be contaminating the oil at the moment anyway with the diesel.
I might start the gentle tapping myself next week before I call them back. Might as well try and do what I can myself.
