According to my Workshop Manual and Parts book your Mk 1 is 1961 4 speed Export RHD. I gather that Disc Brakes were an option on Mk1, you lucky B. My 1959 Mk1 has Drum brakes. The Mk1 was the only model with no quarter vent and with the rain shields. Does it happen to have power steering?

Thanks aussieal, I have now dug out my manuals and it lists them thus: Car No 626100230 1961 MkI 4-speed, Export, RHD Overdrive 8.75:1 Car No 77600372b MkII Automatic Transmission, Export, RHD Car No 77601014C MkII Automatic Transmission, Export, RHD Attachment Deleted The MkI doesn't have power steering and I don't think it has overdrive either The MkIII is also interesting the manual lists it as a MkII but the plate says otherwise: By the way do you know of scanned copies of the manuals or should I start scanning ?

No I don't know of scanned copies. I photocopy or scan pages as I need them to work on my car, or to provide to others who have queries. Gearboxes take almost half of a Manual and I am only interested in the DG as that is what is in my car

I think Mk1s had overdrive standardised with manual transmission from January 1961, PAS steering from September 1960, front disc brakes in August 1959 and auto transmission options around 1960 - according my interpretation of James Taylor's bible.

Eric, you have referred to James Taylors Bible in a couple of places. Can you please advise the full title for us newbies and rookies? I would like to try and get one

I now have the MkIII street legal and is our normal car used daily. The diesel rattle is a bit annoying I'm hoping that felt and carpets will reduce that to an acceptable level and with new door seals are on their way from Scott's old auto rubber in Australia we might be able to talk at open road speeds. The engine is nice and slow doing about 2000 rpm at 100kph.
