John W, be worried, be really worried Why should I be worried Richard? Tim is doing a great job I have been following his Photobucket and have helped him on a few occasions so well done Tim I was at that stage in the 90's it was a long haul on my own! The Old Girl has been part of my life in more ways than one! and I hope she has inspired a few guys in the past and will continue to inspire and help more guys over a few more years (I hope)

John has done a fantastic job on his car. ! I would be more than pleased if I could get mine anywhere near the standard of his. John has given lots of much needed support with my project, as well, as you chaps have on the forum. I'm going to need a lot more help along the way to get the car on the road.

Thanks Tim you are doing a great job to a "very impressive standard" so achieving what I have done will be no problem and "if" you need any advice along the way you know where I am. Doing any total restoration on your own can be a lonely place at times and can be cold, depressing, demanding not to mention bl**dy annoying but in the end it is rewarding! A lot of guys give up I have seen cars at David Greens which have been started with a boot full of new spares which is a shame.

As you say John a restoration on your own is a nightmare. I would love to do it myself, but I know what I am like. Mine would end up at David's or similar, also to old to do one now. I do little bits at a time. Mine won't be as good but it keeps me happy and I have something to do other than going down the pub Anybody who makes the commitment to do a full restoration has my utmost admiration. P.S There's a first Richard we agreed on something.

Some days you do question your sanity, especially if things are going wrong. Until I got the engine and gearbox back in, I did wonder if will ever finish it. I found the best way to tackle the restoration (and keep your sanity) is not too think about all the jobs you have too do to complete it, but too break each job down and be pleased with yourself when you complete it. I'm determined too finish my restoration and have the pleasure of driving my favourite classic car.

A good question Richard I spent 12 years or so of my spare time, then when I retired I treated it as a job solidly for 2 1/2 years nearly every working day, a lot of weeks it was 7 days! and since then all the running gear has been redone with stainless steel bolts which I had to make as they were not stock items, splitting the wheels and assembling after re-chroming, SS brake rods brackets etc plus all the engine upgrades plus the 4 gear project I would estimate 00000? hours but I am a bit OCD and I am not finished yet

Totally agree with breaking jobs down for me.
With work, home and family I also wondered if I would ever get the car back together after near 20 years off the road. I've changed my approach several times and compromised ultimate quality for a realistic return to the road.
I set targets for completion of a job and try not to beat myself up if they slip slightly. Smaller jobs mean more success.
I do not compromise on safety mechanically or structurally but i do let things like panel gaps and paint quality take less importance.
I've ended up with a set deadline for getting the car through mot so I can drive it next year. Then I will pick manageable projects to do on it like fix minor rust in the doors and perhaps even painting it panel by panel to keep it roadworthy.
It's great to see cars getting done regardless of approach!

Very nice and impressive work done! You should post more on the forum as it is rather quiet and i always like to see people working on their cars and post the results

I will post more pics up as I complete each job. Please be patient though as I only get to work on it at the weekends, so it's slow going.

Great job Tim. I am doing a rolling restoration on mine. Unfortunately I am running out of time. Mechanically its about there, with a few mods but im going to have to farm out the body work.
Time waits for no one!

That's very impressive work, excellent photos. I wish that I had the nerve to take on such a project. However, the end result will be well worth the effort and frustration experienced along the way.
Have I missed something? It would seem that Resurgam (Richard) posted a reply, but I can't see anything, nor can I see him listed under membership.
