Hi everyone,
In a moment of empty head, I put the box in PARK while it was still moving after stalling and "CLONK!" the park pawl broke
Hopefully, the box still worked so I can drive home.
I didn't know nothing about this part and having asked on the forum, I was told by Harvey that it was possible to remove and refit it with the box in the car, one member did it.
So, I decided to try, with the help of Andy and Harvey, thanks to them.
It's possible to do it on your back with the car on stands. If I did it, everyone can!
I do this thread for those who want to do it but, like me, never opened their box.
It's operation EEE2 19 in the WSM
First, drain the oil and remove the pan. I got nearly 4 litre when I drain the box the first day and 6 litre after one week.
The pawl is at the rear left of the box
Here we see the tip of the pawl is broken
with a screwdriver, I remove the release spring...
To free the pin for toggle link
The pin for toggle link removed
In order to remove the anchor pin, I had to remove the extension housing at the rear of the box. It's a little bit hard as you have to remove the driveshaft and the bolt of the coupling flange of the box but you can't prevent the box from turning with the Park position obviously
Once removed, I gained access to the anchor pin and removed it
The pawl is free
But I had a problem, the broken bit was nowhere to be seen.... it was not in the pan and I couldn't see it in the box.
I then took a flexible magnetic finger and put it everywhere in the box and finally found the little bit, what a relief!!
Here's the old and new pawls (the new one provided by Harvey)
To refit the new one, reverse the removal procedure as it's always said in the WSM!
Relocate the pawl and refit the anchor pin
To refit the pin for toggle link I used a "I don't know the word in English but here's a picture"
It was quite easy to refit the pin
I then refit the spring
and it's done!! Well, I have to refit the rear housing, reconnect the driveshaft, refill with oil, but the hardest part is done
Here's pictures with lever in "N" and in "P"
