Hi folks, i have owned this p5 ( my second ) for approx 8 months and repairs are well on the way. It is stored and worked on in a container so its a bit tight on space but i dont let small things like this hold me back. It is a genuine 3 owner 55,000 mile car that had been stored in a greenhouse since 2003 so as you can imagine the interior is as hard as old nails and needs replacing as do most of the rubber parts. I have a build thread on rods n sods hope some of you find this interesting. Woz www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/garage/all-couped-up-389602

Why are you posting it on a hotrod forum?

Why are you posting it on a hotrod forum? It didn't make any sense to me either vince if it's going to be restored?

Maybe i was wrong? Welcome Wozzer. You are certainly not wrong, you can post and do whatever you want, wherever you want. I certainly enjoy looking over and reading about a project no matter where or what it is. Looking forward to seeing and reading more about it.

I had a good read of your thread on the other forum and it was really interesting. I look forward to see how your plans progress and other members of this forum have done some of the mods you were suggesting. We have a modified section so by all means pop pictures and details on there. Myself a a number of others would be really interested to see how you do with the P5. By the way, for the others 'Restoration' can mean restoration of the condition of the body, it doesn't have to mean restoring to standard;) - I see you have been busy-sills, D posts, inner wings etc etc Not jobs for the faint hearted. Good luck-I want to see your mods as from what I read you are quite experienced

Many thanks for the welcome guys and taking the time to read through the post on rods n sods. As far as the restoration goes the body will be remaining completely stock including all the trim. It will undergo some upgrades to the suspension and a power steering column instead of the old leaking power steering box. The interior will have new seats and carpets.

Wozzer l have no qualms with anyone posting to other forums. My query has more to do with the focus of the project. I was expecting some radical work to the car as per Winston Sewell's red coupe. I also have a highly modified Magnette and have followed the progress todate on 'RodsnSods' of Ian Metcalf's 427ci ZA Magnette dragster, that you may be familiar with.

You do just fine John ...I've given up trying to gauge everyone's sensibilities...the dialogue/interaction is probably a little more sophisticated on this forum (now that will surely upset someone, but it shouldn't!) The comment's purely based on observation and has no relationship to any individuals. As an aside, some years ago a very talented young restorer and his father (toolmaker/machinist) restored an MG Magnette using exemplary skills and also incorporating some very worthwhile upgrades/modifications. The young restorer posted it to The Hamb, essentially an American hotrod site. He received quite a lot of criticism initially until the skill level of the restoration was observed. Only then did the nay sayers back off. For all intents and purposes though, the car didn't meet the criteria of the forum although the work and scope of the build was an illustration worth following.

After the discussions from you guys i have decided to post some more pictures on here so you dont have to go onto the other forum to see whats going on. I had a little time today to get to the lock up and the front wing bottom mounts were on my mind. Now because of the extent of the rust in these areas i had no idea of how the bottom of the wing is mounted so i designed my own wing mount, this is basically what i came up with I capped the end of the sill then plug welded my new bracket in place I then drilled and welded the the final captive nut in the splash apron More soon woz

The wing bottom is hardly "mounted" and is just open at the bottom edge with a fastening on the foot of the A post and another tab on the inner wing splash panel
Yours solution is quite neat

I am going to weld a new tab on at this point, it may be a bit of overkill but the wing needs repairing any how. woz

Stripped out the rear leaf spring and shock today to get a better look at the rust in this area. This is what it looked like before i removed the already repaired sections.

Typical rot - our Coupe was like that I new mine was bad and had been repaired before phil, i was a bit taken aback when i removed the repairs to see just how bad the rails were. Still i will make some templates today so i can make the repairs in one piece.
