sorry about the delay posting back on this sender/gauge problem i asked earlier about
after giving the car a few runs around and running the engine on the drive etc:
to see if the fuel gauge would move, it has not it's still showing with flickering about
towards full, 3/4 of a tank of a tank of fuel. i then thought it's the sender unit.
so i got a new one, before removing the old unit i made a long length of two wires
that i connected both to the wiring i disconnected from the old unit then i connected
the wires to the new unit so i could see the gauge on the dash, when i turned
the ignition on the gauge went to full, and this was with the float in the lowest
position, when i lift the float to register fuel in the tank the gauge goes towards
empty on the gauge. but it only goes to show half a tank. i have changed the
position of the wires to be sure they were in the correct position. i have also removed
the black wire from the connection from the wire from the harness to the sender and made
a earth on the car body that sparked as it made contact so i assume there is a good earth
if i leave the black wire off the gauge still goes to full but does not move when the float is moved up/down
i now think this problem was there when i got the car and with the gauge showing fuel until i started to put
more fuel in the tank, i just wondering am i missing the obvious and if anyone have any idea what the problem
is before i need to get a auto electrician on to it.
