Does anyone have experience of this please? A company has asked to use my Rover P5 in a TV drama in return for a fee. I have checked out this company and director/s and everything stacks up. However my insurers say I will have NO cover during the days in question. I cant be there myself but the company says they will collect and return the car and will show me their insurance prior. Does anyone have experience of this and what precautions can I take apart from the obvious?

I had a similar thing with a couple of magazines unlimited cover insurance experienced driver etc etc all I said was "if I am not driving the car nobody is" and declined politely.

I've done plenty of static photo shoots - another one due next week - but giving the car to someone for 2 days a distance away seems more risky. BBC knows and uses the prop provider but I'm still very wary of giving keys to a stranger.

I personally would not leave my car to drive with anyone who I did not know would respect it

In all the years I've owned my car, I've never been approached by anyone in the media I assume this is the preserve of a small select band of owners I understand that you have to be on a list and the club can arrange this. Personally I would never want to be on such a list and would never want any one to drive my car off for a couple of days, any thing could happen to it and getting it repaired properly would be a nightmare

Not had any experience myself, however a freind of mine was approached to have his vehicles used on the set of saving private Ryan a few years ago, they wanted his vehicles fully kitted out for quite some time, his response was the same as johns above, did anyone see the state of the poor old jag / Daimler from the morse series after they had finished with it??

Hi Eric, This sort of thing happens a lot and I deal with many requests each year on behalf of the club. It is up to the TV company to insure the car and it is rare for one to be loaned. I always stay with any of mine and usually drive them too. The cars they mess up like the Morse car or George Gently P5 are usually bought, used and sold on. An owner would not usually accept leaving a car with anyone else unless it was in poor order.

thanks Geoff. The Rover was used over two days filming last week for an episode in series 6 of Call the Midwife and i stayed with it and drove it. It was also used for a photo shoot for Classic and Sports magazine this morning near me - same terms. I will post any publication dates in due course.
