John, Instead of wrapping it up for winter, you should send it to me in Australia to look after for you. I could drive it for you every day too and I'd be more than happy to do that at no charge... Stu

Nice one Stu how do you want it sent? I did take her for a long run then a service change oil filter etc followed by a good polish then the last thing some of the weight is "just" taken off the springs", looks a bit like I have those heavy duty springs fitted

It is such a shame to 'lock it away' John. But I understand your reasons for preservation - it is an absolutely 'perfect' example. I must admit, I'd struggle if I couldn't look at mine every day. Hell, I even get depressed if its raining on the weekend when I would normally drive it...! Our local Rover Owners Club had it's biennial 'Rove' last weekend and it was held in Busselton, just outside Perth, Western Australia. There were visitors who drove their Rovers over to Busselton from Sydney & Melbourne, travelling distances of approximately 600km per day and taking up to 7 days to get here! Other Rover owners flew in (without their cars) from Brisbane and New Zealand. Cars on display included P2, P3, P4, multiple P5's & P5B's, as well as Series 1 P6's, P6B's & SD1's. There was even an Indian made Standard 2000, which was manufactured in 1988 using an SD1 body shell with a Standard Vanguard 4 cyl 2 Litre engine (from 1948 and practically the same as that in the TR4!) Talk about basic...! And it was a wet weekend too, so my Rover will get a bit of attention this weekend (which will be sunny!)

I hate locking it away Stu but for me that's the only option! I have a large double garage but it's a better environment in the Carcoon plus we live in a rural community where mud on the roads is normal during the winter add to that the rain and it's a no brainer better off where she is for winter Glad you had a great weekend!

i know how you feel john, i put mine away 22 years ago and have only had her out on trade plates for a good run on a hot summers day since and even that hasn't happened for a few years now. Shame on me really. Attachment Deleted

I understand that Velvet mine hasn't been out much this year because of a couple of health problems, I have missed a lot of shows/meetings lets hope next year will be kinder

It looks lovely, John. I know how you feel as I laid mine up yesterday after a final run. I managed to do just over 3000 miles this year and am already planning another trip to Scotland next year. I also put her on axle stands with two sets at the rear to just take some of the weight off the springs. I also drain the gearbox fluid into a tupperware container to prevent any leakage - I don't want it dripping on me when I am polishing the underside I don't know what your view is on the subject of starting the car over the winter, but I leave mine until I am ready to use her again.

Thanks George I don't bother starting mine either I just make sure the new oil has gone round the system etc I have made a none return valve for the gearbox so I wont get the torque converter draining back I have been trialling it and it works well! thanks to Andy who found a very rare OEM sample I must admit I miss seeing the car in the garage but I know she will winter better in the Carcoon
