Yes and the sill trim seems to be a bit short as well. The painting of the waist level coachline seems to be a real problem for restorers of all abilities. It's often missing or in the wrong position. Yes a lot short :-( not to mention the front screen seal do these guys think you would part with all those £££'s without having it looked over pictures don't mean anything! DVLA is interesting wrong, as usual, it's a Land Rover :-)

I remember about 35 years ago the boss having some paintwork done on his car and then having to take it in to have the coachline done. He said that an 'old timer' appeared , with the shakes, prepared his brushes and paint and woosh and it was done. A skill that has been mainly lost.

Here on my side of the pond, there is a cable show called, "Counting Cars" on the History Channel. It is about a restoration shop in Las Vegas and the cars they rebuild, restore, paint, etc. To watch the paint guy do freehand pinstriping is amazing.

Yesterday, Sunday, went to BMC day at Gaydon, lots of cars and a good variety including possibly 10 Austin 3 litres, many years ago I owned one briefly and called it Uriah, as it was a heap ! Went in my Morris Minor, so maximum 55 mph on the motorway, which was interesting and did manage to overtake a boat. Petrol cost £25 each way, (280 miles total) unlike the Rover which is now 50 pence per mile. 2 of the queen's P5s in the museum and one used by prime ministers. an excellent venue and a pity that there are not more Rover events there.
In case you are wondering, the boat was on a trailer !

Does anyone know the weight of the body shell alone, without engine, subframe, axle and any interior figments? I am just making a carrying frame for the body and have found that wheels rated at 150 kg seem insufficient in strength. I had thought that 600 kg divided by 4, would be sufficient.

Last year I fitted a silicone gasket to my gearbox sump, as I nipped up the bolts the gasket spread, but it worked and I had a dry floor. However when I looked at it recently I saw that it had split and once again it was leaking. I have now fitted a rubber gasket, but this time I glued the gasket to the sump pan with Araldite, slow setting and compatible with everything. After letting it set I have torqued it up to a massive 5lb ft and it has not spread at all. I lubricated the top of the gasket with ATF so that it could settle easily. Time will tell, but it is looking good.

Update on the rubber sump gasket for the gearbox. I have been checking the torque fairly often and have it torqued up to 8lb/ft, without any spread. A couple of days ago I put in enough fluid to fill the pan, as she is still laid up for the winter and she is still dry, so looking good so far.

Post the full service I carried out recently I today had mine properly set up by an old skool mechanic who came very highly recommended to me by my local P5B/P6 expert guy. She was set up on a rolling road at a very steady speed and I have to say she now drives like a new car and super smooth now where as before she was a tad hesitant. Not anymore. She is perfect and even the temperature guage now sits in the green area where it should do. The engineer informed me she was a tad out but is now purring as she should do. I am very happy and the total bill was only just over the £100 mark and he had the car for a good 5 hours. Yeah, name him too, good service is something we all crave and a good recommendation is worth its weight in gold.

Applied a second coat of Silver paint to the insides of my wheels today and then removed the spare wheel carrier tray OFF the car, inspected it, cleaned it and painted that with a new fresh coat of Black Hammerite and also applied a nice fresh coat of Silver paint to my exhaust rear silencer as it was looking a bit tired albeit 100% solid. I must say the chassis underneath the tray was MINT and totally free of any signs of dirt and or rust. Perfect but it will get a fresh coat of protection there too. Im gonna have a rest for a few days now before I get high on paint fumes. LOL Ive also just spent £1000 on a stack of new items for my P5B saloon so I think im off for a good lie down now to recover from the hype. LOL. Cheers

Well, replacing the seal on the axle, and installing it correctly, fixed the Differential fluid leak I've had for about a year or so. The shop I had press off the old bearing and press on a replacement bearing and seal put the seal on facing the wrong way! It has been slowly leaking diff fluid and may have been the root cause of the bearing on the other side of the car coming loose. I took the car out for a drive (about 30 miles) and the leak is GONE! I feel much better that when I take the car for a trip at the end of May (going up to Idaho Falls, 900 miles away) for a neice's high school graduation, it will get there and back with no problems. Plus I'm going to Oklahoma for a family reunion in June so the car will get a good workout this year. With my retirement at the end of February, I've gone from filling up the car 3 times a week to about once a month! Quite a saving in $$ plus less wear and tear on the car!!

Hi All, we took the 64 Coupe out for a drive to Kirkharle, near Rothbury Northumberland. Up the A68; 46 miles from our house. Plenty of beautiful scenery on a sunny day. With craft shops and cafe at the end. It was a local car club show with plenty to see. There was a very nice 30's Delage, one of 30 built I believe. Had a straight eight engine. The owner was telling us about driving it through Scotland, back in the day. I was pleased to say the 64 Coupe gave us an uneventful and very comfortable drive. Thats what we got it for.

I have been on holiday this week. Took the Coupé out of the carcoon and gave it a wash and polish. Then put it back in.

Hi all, thanks to Mr S Vigrass I discovered my car in an article from Practical Classics 1990 Vol 11 No4. All I have to do now is to try and find out who the owner was in 1990. I have contacted people, who helped with the piece, but as to who owned the car then it's still a mystery.
