Carried out a service today. So far changed the oil and filter, power steering filter, fuel filter, air filters already changed last month, drained the diff and refilled with fresh oil ( Millers Type EP 90 and Millers 20w 50 engine oil ) all ok so far and just got new plugs, ignition leads, rotary arm and dizzy cap ( Lucas ) to do and new wiper blades. New drain plugs and copper washers too and a new oil filter head sender switch.
Got a Lucas sports V8 coil coming from JRW as I have an inter motor item on mine currently but this time round I bought all my service items from Gordon @ Rover parts London and my oils from Opie oils.
Trans oil was changed last year by previous owner just prior to me buying the car so all ok there and ive already re-newed all the heater system and antifrezze and hoses/pipes.
Busy but enjoying myself and the car will be ready for some shows this year weather permitting.
Cheers

Post the full service I carried out recently I today had mine properly set up by an old skool mechanic who came very highly recommended to me by my local P5B/P6 expert guy.
She was set up on a rolling road at a very steady speed and I have to say she now drives like a new car and super smooth now where as before she was a tad hesitant. Not anymore. She is perfect and even the temperature guage now sits in the green area where it should do. The engineer informed me she was a tad out but is now purring as she should do. I am very happy and the total bill was only just over the £100 mark and he had the car for a good 5 hours.
The drive back home was a lot different than the drive there. LOL
I also found a lovely pair of genuine period Lucas P5B amber front foglight lenses on ebay and ive fitted these too and they look great.
Just got my new pair of powder coated rocker covers to fit now with the new type rubber gaskets to complete I bit more engine bay " bling " I am after a pair of those chrome carb pot covers if anyone knows where to get them please,

Yeah, name him too, good service is something we all crave and a good recommendation is worth its weight in gold.

It's a fine balance when it comes to recommendations there is an example on here at the moment where a recommendation or two has been put forward but I know firsthand the type of service you are likely to get from that provider and it's not good.

Very nice and an AED - that must be rare. Mine stuck open when I was due to visit my brother who was at university in Bath, I still went and she did 10 miles to the gallon. On the way I stoped for petrol and the attendant managed to drop the nozzle on the boot lid. The mark is still there and reminds me of that trip, in 1977

Took mine out for a drive to the RSR annual meeting which was held at Kemble Airfield. 7 P5B's tipped up, 5 saloons and 2 Coupes. Admiralty blue was the colour of the day with most of examples on show, LOL,
Great weather and a great turnout of Rovers from all era's. Highlight for me was parking my Rover alongside the RAF Britannia plane for a photo shoot. Best of British togeather.

Hi all, Just a few pictures of a radio upgrade project that keeps me off the street these days. The general idea is to have 'modern' car audio, but with a classic look and as hidden (and reversible) as possible. Fitting the rear speaker proved fairly straightforward, with a snug fit for the pod underneath. Both speakers are dual voice coil. Rear is 6", front 4" x 8". The radio is also from RetroSound (with bluetooth, usb, non-volatile memory and dab+). So fas so good. Speakers and radio are in place, wiring in progress, amplifier and active subwoofer to follow. Will post more pics when all is done. (click on thumbnails to enlarge)Regards, Benedict

I have just, yesterday, come back from Scotland after a weeks holiday with my lovely coupe. It rained, rained and rained. On the way to Durness the wipers stoped working, fortunately it was only the fuse and I carry spares. I did 2000 miles in the week and managed to get about 250 miles from each tankfull. Already washed and polished !

Changed the Bluecol antifreeze today, used about a 40% plus mix. Here is a picture, the expansion bottle came from an Austin Allegro (they wern't all bad !) and used like this prevents air locks in the heater.

Oh aye and I put the panel light & wiper speed switches back to their correct positions so now when you slow the wipers down it doesn’t dim the panel lights

How about we call this topic, "what have you done to your P5 today." What do you think guys? Just focusing on P5Bs cuts out all the other P5s!! Well...I thought I'd give the transmission in my coupe (nominally a BW35 with BW40 & 51 bits fitted) a quick service. I've noticed though, quick services always take longer than anticipated. I ended up changing the ATF (Dexron 111 for my trans as it has upgraded frictions and bands), removed the valve body, stripped and cleaned that including all the valves & springs. Checked the settings for the front and rear bands, checked the movement of the valve body throttle cam against the movement of the accelerator pedal. Checked the kickdown action in relation to the accelerator pedal button. Made a couple of slight adjustments to the transmission cable then washed the pan and fitted a new gasket. And yes I did spill some ATF as I did most of the service on my back under the car.

It's not so much what have I done with my P5B or P5 today, I would like to get it out and go for a run out in it but if the weather stays as it is up here it will be staying off the road until next year unfortunately
