I have just purchased a P5B Coupe after a good deal of searching. I have just pulled the engine out to trace a serious oil leak and while it is out I will undertake some detailing before refitting. I need to repaint the inlet manifold, air filter tubes and so forth and would like to use the correct shade of grey. Does anyone have the correct paint code?

Many years ago I bought some from Gordon Stacey of Roverpart www.ebaystores.co.uk/Roverpart-of-LondonHe may have some, otherwise take a painted part to Halfords and see if anything matches. As every vehicle on the road seems to be painted some awful shade of grey there should be something that matches !

BLMC never was consistent or fussy in such matters. It used the shade of grade that was sourced by the buying dept at the best price - as such it varied in shade. If you have a sample have it spectrogarphed at your local paint factors or Morleys Derby will match it mail order

Many thanks. I have some darkish grey enamel of about the right shade which we use at work. I will try it and see how it looks.

If it helps I had mine powder coated and the colour that best matched mine was the RAL colour basalt grey. It's not as blue as some I've seen but it looks great to me!

I found Ford Dove Grey was fairly close and used to be easy to get hold of. From memory the original grey was ever so slightly darker..

When I took my set into the powder coaters I also took along an original flame trap for them to colour match and reference, he took one look at the flame trap and announced " Massey Ferguson grey ".
It was spot on.

It is my intention to do the inlet manifold and the rocker covers in the same Basalt Grey that barryr mentions above, but I would like to know if this finish was originally a Gloss or a Sheen finish?

The best colour match I have found is Stoneleigh Grey which is the colour Harry Ferguson used for his grey tractors. I have owned a fair number of Rover v8-powered cars over the years and the grey engine parts were always gloss finished.
