Having been onto Wadhams to look for leaf springs, they have 2 sets, 5 leaf and 7 leaf, but on both listings, they make a point of stating that they are not made by the firm that is endorsed or sponsored by the P5 owners club... something about complaints.
Does anybody know which firm Wadhams refer to? Only they're shut at the moment, so I'm going to search online and wanted to know who to avoid.

Let's make this very clear.
The Rover P5 Club does not and has never endorsed the spring manufacturers. The club has received no complaints regarding said company, so the comment from Wadhams is, 'misleading'
Club members do however, receive a discount on any orders should they decide to purchase from said company. Contact details for this and other suppliers, can be found in the 'Members Discounts' section of Take Five.

The company referred to is BCC and their springs are no good and neither is the company from a recent personal experience:
Based on this I suggested the Club to remove the reference to BCC, so there is at least one club member complaint.
Jens.

Jens, If club members contact the club, then I am sure the committee will take a look. I understand a number of people have used BCC and are more than happy with their springs. "BCC Leaf Springs are made from British steel and are manufactured to an exact standard using an ISO 9001 quality control system to ensure the production processes for forming, tapering, eye rolling and tempering each spring are done to a consistently high standard."
Link: britishclassiccarparts.com/AND to reiterate, as you may not have read my previous post, THE CLUB DOES NOT ENDORSE BCC. though we are happy that club members, should they decide to do so, will receive a discount when ordering.

Our very own P5 Guru Phil Jones has done a vefry informative write up on Wadhams' springs on the Rover P5 Facebook page.
From what I read he is impressed with the 7 spring version for the P5B
Phil even has some tips of do's and don'ts
ETA: It's actually on his own personal Facebook page - sorry

Brendan69, yeah mate, we’ve all got the message. You don’t like Wadhams. I personally have had nothing but good experiences with them and their parts over 30 years of P5b ownership. Your campaign against them is getting old and tiresome.

Agreed. Constant griping is becoming a bit tedious

Agreed. We should be really up the creak without them. I know that Jon gets quite upset with some of the sniping. So lighten up - we need him and what he does for us. Expensive, try running a Bentley or Rolls, or perhaps an equivalent up market car.

At the risk of opening this proverbial can of worms again, the statement NOW found on JRWs website is still misleading. I quote: "These springs are NOT made by the supplier to the P5 Club"
So here I go once again... The Rover P5 Club does not and has never endorsed the spring manufacturers. THEY ARE NOT A SUPPLIER TO THE CLUB. Club members do however, receive a discount on any orders should they decide to purchase from said company. Contact details for this and other suppliers, can be found in the 'Members Discounts' section of Take Five.
I really do not what else I can add, but hope JRW will refrain from such misleading statements .

I recently fitted both rear springs from BCC, new rear y shaped mountings and shock absorbers to my P5B saloon. The whole job took 3 of us 2 1/2 hours. You need one person working two trolley jacks and the other two with long crow bars to get the y shaped bushes lined up. Ideally if you get another 3 people sitting in the rear of the car this will help to elongate the spring to assist alinement. The front bush on the spring which you must fit first is secured with a bolt. This was the problem area as the shank of the bolt was around 0.012" / 0.3mm larger than the ID of the front bush. Fortunately we were able to drill these out with a limpet drill on a large bench. The springs are fine with a height difference of only 3 mm between the offside and the nearside. Even the spirit level placed on the sills was reading level with the car empty which you need when setting up the front suspension. Hope this helps Mick

I had a pair of rear springs from Wadhams about 20 years ago, they are identical and the front bushes were already fitted, there are 6 leaves including the flat short one on the bottom. Last week I removed, on my own, the offside one, took it apart, cleaned it, re-greased it and put it back on. Then re-fitted the leather gaiters that I also bought about 20 years ago. Over the years I have kept the gaiters clean and fed with hide food and Autoglym leather balm. The springs, once cleaned off still look very good. I have now removed the nearside spring and will start on it tomorrow, slightly more difficult as I had to remove the exhaust.

Why not post some pix of your work George. Always nice to see what enthusiasts are doing (visually)...and you can also then show off the pristine underbody of your car.
