I am just a little confused with the tightening torque of the cylinder head bolts. The Workshop Manual states quite clearly that bolts marked "A" torque 50lbs and bolts marked "B" 30lbs.. However, I have a mixture of large and smaller bolts under the rocker cover i.e. middle row and I am wondering whether it is intended that the smaller bolts should be torqued at 30lb in this line.
Looking at the diagram in the manual it shows three lines of bolts. Viewing the diagram from the front of the engine we have ; to the left Bolts "A" (large ones) in the middle line a mixture although they are marked "A" (which means 50lbs) for all of them?? The third line "B" are all the smaller bolts i.e.30lbs.
The middle row mixing the sizes and stating a torque of 50lbs has me slightly puzzled.
If someone could clarify the position before I charge in and mess the whole thing up I would be most grateful.

The torque is dependent on the thread size. The row under the rocker cover are all 7/16 but have different sized heads so all 50. The row down the exhaust side are all 3/8 so 30 ft lbs.

Worth cleaning the threads of the bolts nearest the exhaust manifold as exhausts gases carbonize the ends.
Also flush and blow dry all the blind holes in the block so that you do not accidentally tighten a head bolt against an oil hydrolock intead of the head gasket.

Thank you for the valued information so the Manual is absolutely correct then. I dont know why I doubted its accuracy.
