hi Guys,
thanks for letting me join your little group.
i have recently bought a P5 b coupe.
i have always been a fan of these cars and wanted one for many years.had one back in the eighties but now i need one for different reasons. i am a lifelong biker and i had a serious accident in september 2019. i recovered, and whilst i still ride bikes and have a collection, i also used to like driving fast cars until recently. i wrote off my 3 month old toyota GR Yaris and fractured 2 vertebrae in my back 2 days before i was due to get married in october this year!
so, now it is time to calm down and slow down , hence the rover coupe.
so , the car is very nice, not mint by any standards but tidy and usable.
i have already started getting stuck in to the hundreds of jobs i can see on the car, the first of which was the horrible rough gearbox. it dropped into neutral regularly and only appeared to have 2 gears π±
a quick trip to my mates garage where i could use a 4 post ramp revealed a badly leaking sump on the transmission. i whipped it off ( fluid was low too) cleaned everything up, adjusted the kick down cable ( hate calling it that as it does a lot more than that ) and fitted a new gasket and fresh fluid.
bingo! all 3 gears and nice smooth changes.result!
i noticed when driving it that i had no heater so that was next on the list.
i discovered that the rear heater had been bypassed by joking the 2 feed pipes together. this had effectively made the heater matrix redundant as water was no longer forced to go through it. i can only assume this had been done years ago as it was now blocked solid , as was the valve.
i have ordered a new matrix and valve and eagerly await the results.
i will keep you posted.
cheers
